·AT&T DSL Service

darn

Well, I wish they would offer it here...

At one point I was mad at Cox for getting better upload than download... 500kbps down, 1000kbps up... kind of backwards...

Anyway, I called up ol' ma bell to see what they could offer, just because I was curious. NO, absolutely NO chance of getting JUST DSL from them... I was told I HAD to buy phone service... which, if added to the cost of regular 1.5Mbps DSL, was far and above what Cox charges for 'regular' (preferred) internet - now at somewhere around 7-8Mbps down/512kbps up...

They really should be able to sell me whatever internet service I can get at my location at a reasonable price MINUS the freaking phone service. If they could offer 1.5Mbps for ~$10, that'd be fine. 3Mbps service at ~$20 would also be nice... I might consider it at that price...

Oh well, they obviously don't care about actually doing this for people, so they'll not get a cent from me for their services. ...Guess my cell provider has to pay them if I call landlines, but hey, I'm not directly giving them any money.

DSL, esp. 1.5Mbps plans, have been around this town for almost a decade now... I fail to see why 1) price hasn't dropped much, 2) you can't get it without phone service.

Cox, meanwhile, has steadily been upping their speeds AND kept the price at ~$40 consistently. Started at ~3Mbps down, now it's at 10-12Mbps to some places, plus the "powerboost" makes for a connection that AT&T would have to BEG me to leave ...I guess the way to gain me as a customer would be cheap DSL without a freaking phone, contract, deposit, install fee, etc. etc. etc.

Try online. Here in Ohio they claimed that it was a special department that handled that but if you go online you have the option to enter in your address to see if you can get the service.
