| Comcast Retention Deals
I originally signed up through ComcastOffers.com, the deal in comcast deals in my experience. This month, my $19.99/month promo has expired, so I'm back to paying 42.95 for service. I called and told them bellsouth was offering $125 cash to switch and rates as low as $20/month. I've made this call several times for other comcast customers and really have never had a problem, generally they lower it to at least 30ish/month.
Today, I was told by the retention dept. that they won't match any bellsouth prices, nor am I eligible for another promotion since I just got off the $19.99 promo. I wouldn't be eligible for another promo for 60-90 days, according to him. The gentleman on the phone wasn't quite pleasant either- which actually really did make me want to switch. Question is: Is this true? Or should I keep calling?
Your advice is always appreciated.

If you don't mind, it probably worth switching to BellSouth for a bit! |

| reply to swanboy I just downgraded a bunch of the over priced services.... dropped digital voice and Performance Tier HSI. Turned in my cable box.
I could no longer justify the $200/month....
No none even tried to make an offer to keep services.... and when I asked the week before about a deal and informed them I was contemplating downgrading I was told to just call when I was ready to do so.
I guess they think they're "all that" and a bowl of corn flakes.
Some one needs to knock them down a peg.... not going to be here because my only option is comcast HSI...

| reply to swanboy So you're upset that your scam of calling with empty threats and quoting bogus competitor promotions is not working?
Promotions are exactly that - incentives to get your new business or for a new extended contract. Calling them every time your promotion ends and lying about a competitor's offers is pretty underhanded. -- "The Dude abides." |

It's not like I'm not attempting to screw the local farmers market with their price of $5 jelly, citing that Walmart has it for $1.50. It's comcast, a practical monopoly.
Secondly, I was not lying. Bellsouth is offering me $125. They also do offer packages at $20. Why would I just sit back and pay an overpriced $43 for internet when better packages, and prices are available. Empty threats? I think not. I'll definitely switch to bellsouth if I don't get pricing I think is appropriate.
I have no idea why you think attempting to get the best price from a monopolistic, careless company reflects poorly on me. |

| Bellsouth/ATT is my phone company here also. You can get the cash back deal, but they don't offer a lower monthly fee like Comcast.Looks like 3000/384 for $37.95 or 6000/512 for $42.95 . |

I'll definitely switch to bellsouth if I don't get pricing I think is appropriate. Signing up for a promotional deal for a product that is regularly $43.00 a month and then saying "Why would I pay $43.00 a month when other options exist?" is odd. Because, again, thats the cost of the service? But, hey, $20.00 for 768/384 is an AWESOME DEAL!!! But youll notice the speed comparable to Comcasts speed is the same price as Comcast. So is it "overpriced" or is it Market Priced? If you can only afford 20.00 a month then get a slower connection and save your money. If you want a faster connection, youll pay for it be it DSL or Cable. If I buy a car and get no payments for three months I dont come back at the end of three months to get another one with a new 3 month promo. I know what the payment is. And when I bought it I knew I could afford it. It isnt GMs fault that I really cant afford it or do not want to. They do not owe me anything. -- CableFAQ.org/Technicians Unplugged

| reply to swanboy dude you just got off a promo what do you expect
i get promos all the time but i also pay my fair share of regular price. We've been paying regular since February or March - 2 months of 8/768 at regular price and the rest for 6/384 @ regular and just couple weeks ago I managed to flip to a promo.
The whole idea of the promo pricing is that you'd keep your service after it ends thus bringing profit at some point in the future.
Of course if your area has a lot of people fleeing they'd do anything to keep you, within reason. But if in the end you end up costing them more than to get a new customer they won't budge.
Pay regular price for a few months then look around at what's available and see if you can get it |

He marries her after 3 to 6 months of dating and as soon as the honeymoon is over, he starts to beat her.
Hey, they're married now. So she should just take the beatings like a good wife. Or in the case of Comcast, just take the higher price like a good customer.
Why on earth would anybody stay with a company that treats them worse than new customers unless they have no viable alternatives? |

| They are a business, and want to make money. They are almost certainly losing money on the promo pricing. So why would they want to give you that price over and over again? It's called a promotional price for a reason. -- "The Dude abides." |

Promo pricing is like.. I dont know, when a company gives you an incentive to sign up or try their product at a reduced rate. If you like it when the promo ends you can keep it, or if you do not then you can discontinue it.
Im not sure how that concept is so hard to grasp. -- CableFAQ.org/Technicians Unplugged

They are betting on you sticking around as a long term customer to offset the losses they take on the promotional periods. It's probably not something a Comcast employee can legally say one way or the other here, but I highly doubt they are making $32/mo+ on each line. -- "The Dude abides." |
