Re: HD Pixellation Back (Again) in Philly

I ended up calling in last night. Fat lot of good that did. Never again, and I mean it this time.

VZDirect sounds like a better option.

Hey kids-
A Group ticket is now established.

Apparently they are "seeing issues with a piece of equipment". Hmmmm..I'm wondering if it's the same one that's failed 3 times now???

More details to come.

"Piece of" something. Don't know if "equipment" would be the noun I'd use at this point.

Joe (in the Direct forum) actually asked me to pass on that anyone in this area that is seeing these problems to please create a post in the Direct forum. He will create a ticket for you, then attach it to the group ticket.

Thanks!

All these Philly VHO issues is making me really wonder if when I move in December if it will be worthwhile to have Fios TV or just carry on with Comcraptic.
Too many times in too few months...

Turned on the TV, observed that the problem is still happening (shocking) and opened a Direct ticket.

My guess (as has also been suggested to me) is that there is a piece of equipment that keeps failing (and has been since May) that VZ won't replace, because it is too expensive, however they keep trying to band-aid it instead.

Which, lasts for 4 weeks or so, until we all jump through the hoop again.

PS - Thanks for those that just opened threads in the Direct forum.

Knarf- don't be surprised. They won't "fix" anything until the overnight hours. I guess they'd rather have us put up with 72 hours of breakup instead of the brief outage we'd see for the equipment swap.

NO word as of yet if a fix will be attempted tonight.

Well, I'm in the Philly area and have been affected by some of the pixelation problems that have occurred. I just came back from my sister-in-law's place and we were watching some recorded Dirty Jobs from the SD Discovery channel. It had what I would call a fair amount of pixelization and audio drop-outs. I remarked about how awful it was and they said it's always like that and that's what it's like with a digital feed. They didn't see it as a big deal. They've always had Comcast. If it went on for a couple more weeks maybe they would call it in. Those of us here at Fios on Dslreports would have been reporting it immediately. They said it happens all the time on various channels ... no big deal. And I sure wouldn't want to give up the PQ that I get with Fios. My nephew said that our SD looked like their HD and that our HD was incredible. (And I didn't even prompt him. )

Also, Comcast in this area at least (Philly suburbs) is missing quite a few HD channels – FoodTV, HGTV, HDnet, NFLNet is extra cost, etc. So not to push one over the other but there are trade-offs all around.

Some folks may call me a cheerleader (or worse) but my experience with VZ has been very good. Some problems but they are addressed. Is everything perfect ... no... but it's still better than anything else out there in this area in my opinion.

From the bit i've watched since getting home tonight - it really seems to affect the HD channels.

I'm seeing major tiling and blocking on Showtime HD, Starz HD, Food HD...seems like this time it's only knocking our higher-def offerings.

I've been seeing picture breakups today in Mercer County NJ.

Can you remind me - what's the link to the FIOS TV support forum so I can open a ticket?

The tab for the support forum is right at the top of the page here - it's called VerizonDirect.

Well, edit my last post - i'm also seeing breakup on HBO Zone as well...lol.

Damn! In typical fashion - the tiling is getting worse by the day. I can hardly watch 1 minute of a show without it breaking up.

Re: HD Pixellation Back (Again) in Philly

I haven't watched anything since this morning. But I'm doing a lot of DVRing. I'm just hoping that those channels will be watchable. Maybe I'll try to watch the Phillies game later tonight.

Sure seems like something is failing at the VOD. Not so much fun.

On the other hand, it was astounding at my sister-in-laws this afternoon as to how much leeway they gave Comcast for the pixelating. It was worse than what we're seeing. I was truly shocked.

Last night, CSN seemed immune to the tiling. For some reason, I think the equipment issues only affect the channels they don't obtain locally.

As far as Comcast - yes, even in Wilmington, their PQ is terrible. Their HD offerings look extremely cloudy.

I really just hope they've nailed this and make the change tonight. If not - we're stuck with this until the following evening.

Seeing the issue in Doylestown, PA for the last 2 days now and not just on HD channels. Last night on Sci-Fi and also on TNT-HD. Any news on some resolution? I quit Comcast because of similar issues, maybe I need to go to satellite?

Sorry I'm not seeing this, even though I am only watching the HD stuff on an SDTV, all I have noticed was audio dropouts.

My kids have completely decimated my 40"LCD. The Playstation2 on the bigger screen, and the Nintendo GameCube on the PIP on the 40"LCD.

They even stole the DVR and put it in their room.

All this for being at work all day. My wife had no idea what they were doing because she was out doing some yard work (that the kids should have been doing themselves).

I will be putting everything back together this evening so I can see how bad the PQ is. When I confirm it, I'll add to the group ticket.

Having a couple of 6th graders running around unsupervised during the day is like having Al-Qaeda over for dinner.

Thanks for chiming in Dvleroy.

No confirmation yet if they'll fix it overnight tonight or not. I'm hoping VZ Joe can get me that info before he leaves for the day.

I know you don't want to hear it from me, but if you're going to post your opinion so am I. Hopefully, folks from Verizon won't read this thread and think everyone is going to sit back and say "Oh Well - Could Be Worse" to unwatchable television they're paying for.

It doesn't matter what "anything else out there" is. I don't give my money for "anything else out there." I give my money to Verizon for a service. Their end of the bargain is to provide that service.

No, Comcast overall picture quality is not as good as Verizon. What does that have to do with this? Absolutely nothing. What good is "crystal clear" picture if what you're seeing are crystal clear tiles across the screen every 45 seconds? What good is "CD Quality Audio" if it drops out every three minutes?

I love my FiOS, too. When it works. That's becoming increasingly rare around here.

Sorry knarf829, but I'm just not seeing the same problems that you are. If I had tiles every 45 seconds and CD audio dropping out every 3 minutes I be just as upset as you are. But that's not what I'm experiencing.

I certainly hope that they get your situation straightened out as soon as possible. But my experience hasn't been the same as yours.

For the record, I was seeing near-constant tiling on these channels as I flipped around this afternoon (3-4 PM):

NFL-HD
ESPN-HD
Food-HD
HGTV-HD
Discovery HD Theater
HD Net
