| [XP Pro] MS Client for Netware - drive assignments
I have both a Netware 6.X server and a W2K3 server. I am logging on to both through the MS clients.
When the system logs on to the Netware server, It assigns the first Search assignment to the first available drive, which in this case is E:. However, I need E: available on the local machine for flash drives, IPod, etc. This did not become an issue until I tried to sync my IPod and there was no local drive letter available.
I need to block assignment of drive E: during boot.
Any ideas? |

| reply to OldAuditor I hope you don't expect search drives to be properly mapped using native access.
NCP is the best way when using NetWare and needing to parse a NetWare script. That means either the NetWare client or MS Client for NetWare.
Yes, Search drives start at Z and work backwards. Modifying the script will modify assignments. Search Drives are auto-assigned from Z, while regular mappings can be auto-assigned from F or can be hard-assigned in the script. |

I'm not sure of the drive mapping convention. S1 appears to be picking up E:. |

1 edit | If you dare to install the Novell client you can set what the first available network drive is. Not sure if the microsoft client has that setting.

| I have had NWClient installed previously, and yes, it has that ability. I cannot find a similar option in the MS Client for Netware.
I went back into my login script for Netware and "hard-coded" all drive assignment, even to the point of telling it to "MAP DEL E:SYS/LOGIN", but MS keeps giving me that mapping. |
