| [360] bioshock demo won't download
I tried to download this the first day, but it pooped out at about 45%. Since then I've tried like 6 times at varying times of the day (even 2:30am) with no luck. I've tried resuming, and also clearing it from the hard drive.
Is there some kind of magic reset to do that will fix this? I think the initial partial download borked it. I've had the same setup for 9 months now and downloaded other demo's just fine. -- My Blog. Because I desperately need the acknowledgement of others.

2 edits | I have seen at least one other person with this problem on the official Xbox forums; that person could download neither BioShock nor the Stranglehold demo for the same reason. Unfortunately I have not seen any solutions as yet.
I had big problems getting this demo as well. It always seemed to freeze up at a certain point. What worked for me was stopping the download and then resuming. Although you said this didn't work, give it as much as a few minutes after you resume -- that's how long it took for mine to give me an indication that it actually had resumed. I had to repeat this process several times throughout the day, and it came in incredibly slowly -- such that the progress bar would only move once every 15 minutes.
I had to leave my console on all day before the demo finally came in. Comically, as I sat down to play it for the first time, my 360 suffered a fatal GPU failure and permanent RRoD. The empty shipping box is on its way from the Xbox repair center in McAllen, TX as we speak. -- "I'll follow the law until it's just stupid." -Ted Nugent |

1 edit | reply to Dennis Update on this: It looks like the poster on the Xbox Forums managed to solve the issue by taking his router out of the loop, and connecting his Xbox 360 directly to his broadband modem. He was then able to finish downloading the demo on the first attempt. His router is a D-Link DI-614+.
This might be an extreme step to take; there may be some settings you can change on your router that will help. I have heard some people say they open ports on their router for Xbox Live, although I have not opened any ports (I use UPnP) and never had any problems other than extremely slow downloads at times, which I attribute to server load. You might try searching the Xbox Forums for more on this. -- "I'll follow the law until it's just stupid." -Ted Nugent |

I'd haul the xbox up to my office and rule out the wireless, but i've downloaded other demos before ok. So i'm kinda shocked that might be it. -- My Blog. Because I desperately need the acknowledgement of others.

Another guy mentioned he fixed the problem by turning off DMZ in his router, in case you've got that turned on for any reason. Just grasping at straws here, but it's the only thing I've read that people say is helping. -- "I'll follow the law until it's just stupid." -Ted Nugent |

2 edits | I did have DMZ setup, for when I was playing multiplayer...I just turned it off, but yeah...that doesn't make any sense. Can't hurt to try though.
edit: Ok, it's now up to 60%...which is the farthest I think it's gotten. Removing DMZ doesn't make sense, but maybe...just maybe, having it on was exposing the xbox to all the garbage traffic out there. Port scans, broadcast storms..you know just crap. Or maybe, with DMZ on microsoft's servers are just hammering it with so much data that it's forced to drop packets from the demo download. Hard to really tell without knowing more about how they set it all up, or having a sniffer inline to see what exactly is the defect.
edit^2: It did download....hmpf...go figure. Thanks for the suggestion. |

@comcast.net | reply to Dennis I also had problems downloading the demo, it would always stop at 26%. I turned off DMZ on my router and tried again and it worked fine. I don't know why that would affect it, but that little change solved my problem. |
