interesting point... then they should upgrade to keep with the times, what do they expect people to use less bandwidth as time progresses? the internet is evolving and the content is evolving, the content distributers should evolve with the demand.

How are they a monopoly? Everywhere Videotron serves, you have the choice of dozens of different broadband ISPs with technologies such as ADSL, ADSL2+, wimax, 3G, etc.
Myself, seeing Videotron as too expensive, just signed up with an ADSL2+ provider. If they don't satisfy me (because they don't have a very good rep), I'll sign up with an ADSL provider that I've got my eye on.
So, where is this monopoly, exactly?
