Re: bandwidth charges limit? so now we have you dictating to everybody what the norm is? boy, are we lucky to have you! those are some really innovative ideas you have. why doesn't everybody just switch back to dialup too, because nobody really needs more than 5 KB/s. |

No I am not dictating to anyone...I am contributing to a discussion thread in an on line forum with my views.
While I understand these views differ from the general populous of this site, it does not take a Brain surgeon to work out that not everyone is downloading 40 HD Movies a month, or even 10....or even one.

xo join:2007-06-15 Perry, FL | you show up on every single post where bandwidth is discussed arguing that caps are a good thing. since you seem to be so gung-ho towards limiting uses of others' bandwidth, you should start an isp where limits are disclosed up front and see how many people sign up for your service.
even if somebody is not downloading ten HD movies or even one, nobody wants to buy a product they perceive to be limited. if the ISPs are overselling their bandwidth, that sounds like their fault. this entire issue is just about the ISPs trying to save as much money as possible. if you think that comcast and adelphia and AT&T have enough money, that's fine. you should sign up for the most expensive package they have and use as little of it as possible. of course, that means you should probably stop coming here.. you won't be missed. |

I would agree from a marketing aspect that revealing or imposing caps is not a good thing. Grannie Smith has no idea what 100 Gb is and so might shy away from the service even though she would never hit a cap.
I do have an issue with those who perceive that its their god given right to max out their connection 24/7 on stuff that they could never watch in a lifetime.
The purpose of a company is to make money for their shareholders. Maybe you could start a charity whose purpose is to raise money for people to download 40 HD Movies a month. Good luck.
All ISP's oversell their bandwidth. Exactly the same as everyone in business oversells their product.
Adelphia has no money. It has no assets, they were recently sold.
edited to correct 100 mb!

Once the connection is unlimited, i can abuse it night and day 24/7. If the ISP don't like it, put a cap on it and advertise it like Videotron did. At wich point i will bitch on forums and change ISP to another one that is unlimited. Point final. If the ISP oversells it's bandwith, it is their problem NOT mine. Stop defending greedy companies for no reason.. Oh wait, as it was pointed out before it seems you always show up to defend bandwith caps.. hmmm Adi |

Once again....where do you people get the "unlimited" idea?

that's great to know.
>All ISP's oversell their bandwidth. Exactly the same as everyone in business oversells their product.
if the ISPs are selling a product which they cannot deliver, shame on them. and shame on you for making excuses for them.
>I do have an issue with those who perceive that its their god given right to max out their connection 24/7 on stuff that they could never watch in a lifetime.
again, i fail to see how this is your or my business. if someone wants to let their connection fly full throttle 24/7, who cares? how does it affect you? mind your own ..ing business.
>Grannie Smith has no idea what 100 mb is and so might shy away from the service even though she would never hit a cap.
you would institute caps of 100 mb? wow, you must be a REALLY HEAVY user. why not 50 mb? for that matter, why not 10 mb? because really, people cannot even hit anything above 15 mb without breaking the law in some fashion. there aren't 250 mb podcasts out there, or netflix movies which can be watched over the internet now that are in the range of a few gb. really, how dare anybody use anything over 5 mb even? how dare a broadband subscriber expect to be allowed to (HEAVEN FORBID) -USE- their broadband connection. |

"if the ISPs are selling a product which they cannot deliver, shame on them. and shame on you for making excuses for them."
Where do I start. If everyone in the US flushed their toilet at the same time... If everyone in Buffalo went to Pearl St Bar at the same time.. If everyone in Perry Florida turned on every electrical appliance at the same time.... Yada Yada
"again, i fail to see how this is your or my business. if someone wants to let their connection fly full throttle 24/7, who cares?"
Your TOS cares....On a shared network...when you impact others then everyone cares. Go look at them for your ISP.
"how does it affect you? mind your own ..ing business."
Once again...THIS is a discussion forum. Which means everyone can contribute, whether you like it or not.

Geez, look it up in a dictionary if you have trouble understanding its meaning..
And yes it is a discussion forum and sound like an ISP shill defending them not the consumer.

Therefore your analogies (in most posts in this thread) are false and illogical. No point in addressing everything since it's just an opinion, but you do realize you are advocating screwing the customer, right? You yourself must either have very conservative compuserve usege habits or are immune from such corporate nonsense. |

·Great Works Inte..
| reply to hobgoblin I am not a big fan of caps, neither am I am fan of glutens that download just to do it etc., in my work, I dl/ul a lot of nightly builds because of this I have an account with Adelphia and Verizon as at a business level, As stated I do not like them,(caps) but must give credit for the co. for posting them, reading these forums one finds many bitching about invisible caps so this company TELLS you. Why does this anger so many? I pay for massive bandwidth and get it, Why do some of you expect pie in the sky? What do you think is fair? 5 bucks 10, 15, free, also hob did not make the policy or has anything to do with the Co. he is stated an opinion like the rest of us.
