Re: Fine.

Oh, stop being so melodramatic. Why are people here always bitching about caps? If you read the fine print there is no such thing as unlimited. On dial up it would take you 10 years to transfer the amount of data the cable companies let you transfer in one day. I wish people would quit whining about caps, 99% of these people don't have a legitimate need to transfer so much data in a monthly period. Be happy that they aren't charging you for overage. If the demand is there for legitimate purposes, the caps will go away or be increased as the companies can add backbone capacity. Have you seen how expensive CMTSes are?

·Comcast

people whine about caps because commercials either say specifically unlimited or imply unlimited. for example you can share video with all your family etc etc.

This is feeling like a stupid post already but whatever.

Assuming a saturated 56k connection for 10 years, you would get: 2.605E+12 bytes. With a saturated 10mbit connection for one day, you'd get 1.3246E+11. In order to achieve tens years worth of 56k downloads, you'd have to leave your 10mbit connection on for approximately 20 days (assuming my calculations aren't completely incorrect). If you wanted to download 10 years worth of a 56k connection in one day, you'd need approximately a 25mbit/s connection.

note: for some reason I used 56k connection to mean 56*1024 bits/s and 10mbit to mean 10485760 bits/s. Also, I do not take into account any sort of overhead. And yes, these simple calculations amuse me.

Ah... another knucklehead deciding for me what I can do with my connection and using the redherring "legitimate" as an excuse.

I wish knuckleheads would stop whining about those who whine about caps.

BTW, from which orifice did you pull that 99% because it stinks.

Yep and that's precisely what the whiners that whine about those who whine about caps don't want to discus. The ISPs ENCOURAGES you via marketing koolade to use applications that are KNOWN to consume large amounts of bandwidth.
