From 6 PM until around 1 AM, Speakeasy speed tests to the Seattle server are in the 100-500 kb/s range (with 6 mb/s service), and packet loss is insane. I've been running tracerts to www.wavebroadband.com for the last couple of hours and, well, attached is an example from 8:00.

I actually exceed rates at.. say.. 3 AM, almost 8 mb/s; yipee. I wish I would have found this site first, I would have never dropped the reliability of my DSL.

I've improved a little and for the past week or so, I've been getting 5-7Mb down during peak times, not the max rated line speed, but it's been OK. I've done a lot of looking into Clearwire, and there's no way I'd go there even if I had coverage. If I could get 6/768 Speakeasy DSL here, I'd gladly pay their price! Last time I had that package it was only $106.95 a month? Unfortunately my line would only handle 1.5 with the safety off. . .

I hate to say this to you, but could you act like an adult when posting about your problems? Sorry to hear about your problems, and lack of VOIP reliability.

Hope DSL works our for you, I was a Speakeasy user but couldn't handle the $160 a month for 6/768. Since using Wave I haven't had the reliability problems you have seen. It does get a bit slower during peak times, but nothing where I can't use it or play games.

You might also want to look into Clearwire and see if they have coverage in your area.

I for one would also really like to see some competition sometime this century. Having only one provider can really cause headaches for those of us that always need to be online.

Zero, I have a 5120 Motorola modem with a Buffalo router. My average ping to my first hop (wave) is 15ms which is a bit higher then it was a couple of months ago. It's probably getting a bit more congested in my neck of the woods.

Can't complain (for now). What's your set up Badluckguy? What kind of cable modem are you using? Do you have a home network? I was thinking the same thing because the symptoms made it appear that way. I had a customer today who had one of these . I verified he had the proper config file and level of service but he was only getting 4/384 even though he was provisioned for more. I connected my test modem (Motorola 5120) and I was getting 15/2.5. Go figure . . .Been running into a lot of weird problems lately. I hope your speed issue gets resolved soon.

It appears that this whole fiasco may not have
been Waves fault after all. I replaced my cable modem yet
again, as a last ditch effort. Before I called to have my new modem provisioned I had "No Internet". The lights were there but nobody was home. The end result you can see below . . .

I was thinking my router, yet again, I've had bad luck with them, but it appears to be that I swapped a bad modem with another bad modem . . .3rd times a charm, I hope. If it all goes bad again, you'll be sure to hear about it here! . . .:-)

My Zonet has issues with some firewall entries and ping times. The ping was going thru my router, but I also went direct and got the same result to the gateway. I have a Yukon Gigabit Adapter, and also a disabled
usb adapter as a back up.
I get the the same result when connecting direct to the modem with my laptop and both nics on the pc.

I also switched direct to my pc and then to my laptop even though I knew things wouldn't change. Here we are the next morning.

I'm sure this evening will bring another round of massive packet loss though. My gateway is 24.113.58.1 I'm going to be in Auburn until tomorrow but I'm going to ping that gateway IP tonight and see what results I get. If you have time I'm curious what your results might be.

On my days off my speeds and latency seem to be OK, but my voip would still cut out like crazy. Anyways I'm sick of it. I've been in the Cable business over 8 years (TCI, AT&T and now Comcast). I didn't just fall off the Cable Truck (I was an @home technician when we still supported Intel 486 PCs). I've exhausted every avenue of repair I can get my hands on, short of touching Waves plant, Witch I would never do because I could lose my job. I've replaced everything to no avail. (Modem, Drop, Router, PC, Ground block, Wall plate, You name it, It's been done). The node I'm on is on the corner of Converse and Sedgwick RD. I'm maybe Two taps back from the node towards Jackson RD. I'm really frustrated with this. The service was awesome a few months back, but now it's almost unusable for me. I'm going to contact Wave support and give them the link to this thread. I won't call a CSR because they'll just want to send a "Tap to House" tech out. It won't do any good unless they come out at 9:00pm on a week day, and that will never happen . . .
Latest speed test below. I hope other customers aren't experiencing this, Just imagine if I had WAVE Digital Voice with pings to the gateway like that.

I dropped my voip as I can no longer use it. (Got a cell instead). $65 a month for 8Mb/1.5, and this is all I get when I use my connection at 11:00pm.

My latest speed test result from Speedtest.net
Seattle was at 417kbps/235. I also tried Speak Easy and the speed tests provided here at DSLReports.

Modem signal levels are:
SNR = 36db
Downstream signal at +0 dbmv
Upstream = 42dbmv

My packet loss/latency is ridiculous.
(Even to my local cmts).
This has been tested and documented with multiple pc's

If its a problem directly on the node, going docsis 2.0 may or may not help. Just because it puts you on another frequency. If the problem is elsewhere on the line, it wont help.

Id do it, if it were me. Keep the 4100 series modem around for backup.

Local traffic was fine. I replaced my cable jumper too and made sure everything was wrench tight (but not too tight . . .lol). Anything remote was getting packet loss even to the first hop, my wan gateway. It's hit or miss though. It can be fine for 3 days, and bad for 3. No pattern. The only thing I can't check is the connection at the tap. My signal levels are constantly the same. Also I am using a Motorola 4101. I have an SB5120 in the drawer. Maybe It's time I finally broke down and put the new modem on my account?

First thing I always do is to run a ping -t 192.168.100.1 (or whatever is furthest out on my clients equipment) and then start wiggling cables.

About 25% of the time I do find a bad connection. Whether or not thats the cause of my/their problem is hit and miss.
