Re: Too bad they won't leverage Ion.

Wrong ION DSLAM's, MGX8850's and Passport 6400's were all detroyed as part of the write off due to legality reason's. This equipment was brought to Lenexa, KS to a warehouse and crushed. The ION footprint was much different then the local footprint as we re-sold pairs from the local bell.

When ION was shut down (well before the merger or subsequent spin-off) Sprint Local purchased many of the ION DSLAMs from Sprint Long Distance to increase DSL penetration in local territory.

The equipment sale I referenced was years before the separation.

Umm Embarq didn't purchase any equipment from the LD division. What was Sprint Local to start with became Embarq and what was Sprint LD and Sprint PCS became Sprint/Nextel.

Hi,

I don't think we have met before. I am facetious to a fault and often forget to use emoticons to let people know I am joking.

I realize that Canada is a different country, eh?

Canada is a different country, with its own government (a constitutional monarchy, with a Queen and Parliament). Alaska is a state of the United States, and not part of Canada.

ION was a Sprint Long Distance venture. Sprint Long Distance is part of Sprint-Nextel not Embarq (although the local division which became Embarq did purchase much of the equipment from the long distance division).

Embarq tech support (and customer service) is based mainly in America. There are a few contract centers out of country (Canada for instance - but is that really a different country - isn't just like Alaska?)

As Embarq is an ILEC not a CLEC, I would not hold my breath waiting for the rebirth of ION. If it came it would come from Sprint-Nextel who got out of the local telephone business.

Back around 2000-2002... Can't remember the actual year, but that's the timeframe, Sprint had their Sprint Ion service. That would have AMPLE bandwidth for what they wish to do if they wanted IPTV service.

Too bad they probably laid off all of their expertise in the product when they shipped 90% of their IT off-shore.
