Nasty

I am still down myself. It may be back but certainly not for me.

I had considered for a period of dropping my land line in favor of a combination of Skype and my cell phone. Glad I did not come to rely to heavily on Skype. I hope they offer some credit to those of us who have paid for Skypeout/Skypein service. They really should do a top to bottom review to make sure this never happens again and for such a long period of time.

Well, it's still down for me. I use it quite a bit but this outage is not the end of the world for me. For what I pay, it's no big deal. I'm sure it will be resolved soon. I still have my land line and cell. Wish my cell was $14.95/year!

Wait....people are claiming how "superior" Skype is compared to VoIP and POTS, that this is the *first* downtime that anyone has ever experienced with Skype.....and you're ready to bail out? So is it superior or not?

Got news for you....landlines have "downtime" too, hence the reason my daughter dumped Verizon POTS for Vonage (and cell as backup). She had two, three, four days of outages with Verizon every few months, and they weren't in much a a hurry to fix it without numerous complaint calls each time. She hasn't had one issue since she's had Vonage (over a year).

Last time my land line went out was an internal wiring issue and fixed in a day by myself - before that - don't remember the last time I had a POTS line go out on me in at least 10 years.

It will certainly depend on the area ands how lines are laid down - underground or on the pole. My experience is on the pole tends to be better as water has less of a chance to work thru the insulation when suspended on a pole.
