He says out of nowhere his CD Drive/Hard Drive will just start spinning randomly quite often. Im not sure what could be causing it, whether it be a virus, Norton(yes, he has this), or just something wrong with it?

Are there any hard drive tests i can run on it? I remember a while ago i ran one on mine, cant remember the name though...it had a ton of little blocks that were green if it was good and red if it was bad.
