tv_dinner : No idea when it's coming to Chicago and I am surprised it hasn't hit Chicago yet. It should be faster than your current connection, although the speeds (6k down/1k up) currently offered are kind of weak compared to what Verizon or Comcast offers. I'm not sure how much speed is capable or will be offered in the future, but AT&T has mentioned they will increase speeds by the end of the year... but I reckon that will depend on area and competition.

My understanding is it is fiber to the curb/node (which IMO is a half-assed implementation), and NOT to the home. Correct me if I'm wrong, but essentially it's like having the central office moved close to 3000 feet from your home and from there your phone line is still used to deliver content.

I think the best way to describe U-Verse would be IPTV with DSL on the side. I know I would like to see faster speeds offered on par with FIOS or Comcast, just without Comcast's shady policies.

dddane : has anyone heard an ETA on when U-verse will be in chicago (and/or where in chicago specifically?)... i know there is a u-verse forum but i didn't find much of use there as far as specific dates.

i've seen them heavily promoting the service in the chicago area.. i've even seen bus ads. so it can't be far off...

does anyone know.. when u-verse is available, will i be able to get high speed internet through the u-verse service vs through their DSL line? my dsl line through them really really sucks. their web site is very vague, you wouldn't even know it's a fiber type connection by looking at their web site. i can't say that i'll be that interested in getting TV through them since it won't allow more than one HD stream at a time, but i'm curious about the Internet aspect.
