Hi everyone..I am 2 year Engg student..I have a theoretical knowledge about Networking. I want to get into Security area deeply..But i am little bit confused..What thing i should start with? Cryptography,Firewalls,Network Programming?? Moreover i want to start some Project in networking+Programming..I will be very very thankful if anyone could help me out.. Thanks.. |

| reply to SimpleGuy9 I agree with Ryan only I feel one should have a better than average knowledge of Networking and then go for some of the basics of Security such as the Security+ from comptia. Then ya need to decide if and which specialization you might want to get in. Also ditto on learning C++ and Java.
The world of computer security has grown sooo much from the basic concepts covered by Comptia's Security + I almost hate to mention it but it is still recognised.
It's kinda like on your College entrance exams mentioning ya got an A+ in crayon in Pre-school. |

| reply to Ryan I am a proficient user of C/C++..Actually i had a short term course on networking..As of now i have a little knowledge about everything in networking..how the things work,OSI layer,TCP/IP,data control,flow control,IP addressing,Cryptography,Firewalls..It's just now i want to get deeply into Security part with Socket programming.. I am confused because i am not getting where to start? Apart from this i have to start some project within 3 months..So what can i do? Plz help me..Waiting for ur reply.. Thanks.. |

| reply to SimpleGuy9 Pick up an intro to networking book. It will describe all the layers the benefits etc. There really isn't much to networking, its when you get into things like cisco where it becomes difficult. Actually all of the things you just mentioned can be found in google too. Check out your local book store there are plenty of books on each subject and the intro books should have more of a general touch of each subject. |
