| [CATV] Moxi won't record reliably...
Anyone else expereincing this?
You program the Moxi to record. Program comes and goes, not recorded. You check the Find & Record Menu, Cancelled and Deleted menu, and there are all your programs you wanted to record but weren't.
Program says "Failed (no signal)". But it's wierd, since you can watch TV during the same time frame, and you know the box hasn't lost power.
Charter says to unplug it for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and let it reboot. Great, this works. For one day. Then for some reason the next time I set to record something the same thing happens.
Does charter expect me to unplug my Moxi every morning?
Is the box defective? Should I request a new one from Charter? Charter said not to push the reset button...should I try this next?
Moxi version 4.1 in So Cal area. It hasn't worked right in weeks. -- "No one will believe you solved this problem in one day! We've been working on it for months. | Do you have an external drive hooked up by chance? If so your drive is hibernating and your moxi itself doesnt have the space to record so it fails. I had the same problem with my external drive. If you dont have an external drive I have no idea sorry. Good luck |

| I do have an external drive hooked up. A Seagate model.
I don't see how hibernating is causing this problem. f I reboot the Moxi box, the recording works once. Then not again by schedule, but I can force the recording by manually recording the channel which works.
It's funny. If external drive hibernation was a real problem, why doesn't any one mention that when I call Charter or the Moxi box itself doesn't say that? -- "No one will believe you solved this problem in one day! Unfortunately as is the case with most big companies information moves slowly to not at all.. Especially for your entry level techs answering the phones.... I would suspect your drive going into a sleep mode could be the cause of your problem if you have a lot of stuff already stored on your internal drive requiring the use of the external drive. Keep in mind the Moxi will start relying on the external drive at a set percent (what I am not sure) so it doesn't require your internal to be 100% full or anything. I know I have seen several posts on the net in relation to the seagate drives sleeping and even saw some fixes posted over at the moxi forum. Check this out to see if this helps ya out at all. »forums.moxi.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_···=seagate

| Phatty,
You da man!
That link to Moxi's forum was incredibly useful (and I saved it for future forgetfulness). I followed the instructions to re-initialize my external drive for the PC (I already deleted everything off there cause I knew I'd lose it), reinstall the Free Agent tools, and then adjust the drive's built in sleep timer to Never.
Hopefully that works. And hopefully the drive never sleeping won't shorten it's lifespan, but hey, there's that nice Seagate 5 year warranty.
I'm going to try plugging the drive back into my Moxi now, letting it sit there overnight, and try running a scheduled record first thing in the morning. I bet it works now...

| reply to DHRacer Oh yeah, one last thing. I run XPx64 on my home computer. Free Agent Tools won't tinstall on it. So I broke out my XP Laptop and installed the tools on that.
So those of you running 64bit (xp or vista) on your computer, prepare to find a 32-bit version.
I got the drive back on the moxi with a test tomorrow at 6am so I can call off the Charter tech if this works (he's coming at 8-12) and get my day back from sitting at home and waiting for nothing, now that we might have solved it here instead.

| reply to DHRacer Alrighty...scheduled record test for this morning went off without a hitch. I'd say it's licked.
Anyone else searching this forum for advice with the "Failed (no signal" error and an external drive from Seagate should be flagged down.
Final test today is recording Monday Night Football but if it sat all night and recorded this morning, it'd bet my life it will work this evening.
Thanks again Phatty! -- "No one will believe you solved this problem in one day! We've been working on it for months. Now, go act busy for a few weeks and I'll let you know when it's time to tell them." (R&D Supervisor, Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing /3M Corp.) |
