KenAF join:2006-01-23 Arlington, VA 3 edits | FiOS Internet rate hike for 10/1/07 (VA) It looks like some customers without a contract will see a $5/mo rate hike come October 1 in Virginia.
Hopefully, the hike(s) will coincide with increased speeds.
Edit: I'm told there will be no change in pricing on the 5/2 and 10/2 plans. |

Thanks for this. |

sense join:1999-08-13 Burke, VA | reply to KenAF I just got that letter too, 54.95 to 59.95. Is the increase only for non-contract customers? I am wondering if I can avoid the increase if I extend my contract another year. I was on a 1 year deal (30/5 for 54.95). |

1 edit | That's almost a 10% increase, which is frustrating to me. I also received the letter, but my one year contract is not up until the end of October.
Those are usually arbitrary numbers and have nothing to do with the increased costs of delivering service, better performance or more robust features. Just a nice round number to gouge the customer with that they would not be able to support if we could force them to do so.
We were all wondering what would happen with increases once they sunk their teeth in.. I guess now we will find out.
Interesting that they reference »Consumer Reports: FiOS on Top! on their letter.

Time to rethink my needs... $60 a month....hmmmmm There is no mention if a "contract" is even available.
Did anyone take a look at the back of the letter? There is a little blurb:
"Verizon reminds you to download legally"

I think if they continue to raise the rates that quickly, people will think twice about the difference. What was the rate breakdown?
10 X 2 = 49.99 20 X 5 = 59.99
I started out at 29.99 for 10 X 2 and then when my year was up, switched to 20 X 5 for 49.99 but every month I get billed a different amount... |

danclan join:2005-11-01 Midlothian, VA | ok im confused. I'm on a contract and still received the letter so it appears that all contract customers will be charged for the increase come october.
Yet i can still sign up today for the service via the web site for a years contract at 54.95.... the month to month pricing is still 59.95.
And when i got hooked for tv i ended up renewing my contract since i attempted to go to dhcp...they charged be 20$ fee which implies at least to me that we renegotiated the contract at that time. (course this months bill didnt even include tv charges so we are paying for it anyways in hopes that next months bill may inf act actually arrive correct finally..)
I find this a bit irritating....i do so hope verizon doesnt become the land of ever increasing prices like its competition.... |

KenAF join:2006-01-23 Arlington, VA 1 edit | Note the letter says the change will take effect "no sooner than October 1, 2007."
If you are under contract until December 1, you shouldn't see the price increase until then. I'm still waiting on confirmation on that from someone at FiOS. |

NY TelPremium join:2004-04-09 Smithtown, NY kudos:3 | reply to danclan I would argue any price increase if I am on a contract. After all, what good is the contact if one side of the party to the contract can do anything outside the boundaries of th agreement? |

jack bGone FishingPremium,MVM join:2000-09-08 Cape Cod kudos:1 | reply to NY Tel Hmmmm. I'm going to have to seriously reconsider Cable-Vision's triple play offer: 30 bucks-a-month each, internet phone AND tv, for a year. I have been extremely pleased with my FiOS internet connection and phone service, but I'm really going to have to listen to my wallet. Right now I'm paying about $90 a month for IO digital tv, and another $109 for Verizon phone and internet. Verizon isn't about to lower their price and put almost a grand in my pocket. The math talks. -- ~Help Find a Cure for Cancer~ ~Proud Member of Team Discovery ~ |

If Cablevision is smart, they will keep their pricing just below Verizon and they will lose less and retain more customers. I don't blame you at those rates. I wonder what will happen to the price war? If Verizon keeps escalating, they might lose the war before they thought they were going to win it. |

I have to go re-read my service contract about rate increases but shouldn't my charges remain the same for the duration of my 12 month contract? It is a little rude raising my rates so soon... | reply to KenAF I was one of the first FiOS customers in NY... I originally had 15/2 for $45/mo back in April 2005. At that time, they offered the 30/5 for the whopping 199/mo., but that was too expensive for me. Just a few months later, they mysteriously dropped the price of the 30/5 service to $55 a month and I jumped on it (probably to compete with OOL). I think they are making a mistake raising the price already. I'll have to see what the OOL packages are like at the moment. -- Experience one of the most beautiful women on earth at PetraCentral! |

edelman0 join:2003-01-29 Port Washington, NY | reply to KenAF I can scan it when I get home later... my question: can I expect rate hikes whenever Verizon wants to during my 1 year contract? I am so angry at the change less than a month into my new service that I would like to cancel my FIOS and go back to Cablevision. Plus, I liked their DVRs better... -- www.e-shane.com |
