Comcast kills World of Warcraft

Click for full size
notice no upload
Blizzard sends out its World of Waracft patches via BitTorrent. Comcast now blocks upload BitTorrents. There are 6 million WoW subscribers. Comcast is the largest broadband provider in the US so statistically there are more WoW players on Comcast then on other ISPs. So basically Comcast has killed WoW since when the next patch day comes there will be millions less seeders than previously.

Yes, you can download patches from 3rd party web sites, but they aren't designed to handle 6 million downloads in a 24 hour period.

So good just Comcast, in one fell swoop you will manage to do what many software companies have been trying to do for years.

That really sucks. I got the patch in about 10 minutes over AT&T DSL.

Well if it makes anyone feel any better, my at&t DSL is bit-torrenting it from my sister-in-law's computer. I am allowing it to continue. I did cap it at 608 so I can have a little upstream to myself.

I can see why WoW would decide to release patches via BitTorrent, but that is an issue with their distribution channel, not Comcast.

Blizzard could find other distribution channels if needed.
