Re: 3com Secure NIC - aDSL via PPPoE

3Com do have a range of hardware firewalls for small office/home use... either wired (mostly with VPN) or wireless... though their website doesn't seem to group them very well.

Wired Firewalls seem to come under security solutions->perimeter firewalls; Wireless ones seem to come under routers->officeconnect routers...

I see. Anyway I was looking for a hardware firewall solution for home use. Thanks for the feedback!

Last time I looked at the product, the main benefit of the secure NIC was fast encryption - ie to accelerate the behaviour of VPNs. And I know it talks about being "hardened"... but I don't see any benefit in it in a home environment... a cheap NIC and a decent firewall will do the trick. This product is great in servers where encryption would otherwise slow down the CPU, or in building a distributed firewall... but for home go cheaper!

Hi, is the 3com Secure NIC intended/can_be used as standalone unit for home/desktop with aDSL via PPPoE?
