Had read similar comments a year back and thought twice about FIOS from DTV. I am glad I switched as the HD Picture is much better. Both component and HDMI work fine. |

4 edits | Picture quality is better than Comcast on my Samsung DLP. Picture quality on SD isn't near as good as my two plasmas (when native output is used), but I recognize that is due to differences in their video processing. When I disable 4:3 override, and upconvert everything to 1080i, PQ on SD channels on my Samsung DLP and plasmas are comparable.
If you want top quality SD, spend more on a display like a Pioneer plasma or invest in a video processor. Coupled with 4:3 override set to 480i, that will yield a superb SD picture. |

@verizon.net | reply to Acerone Any of the new Samsung LCD's will look awesome with FiOS. In fact I saw a 40 inch Samsung LCD, 4065 model number i believe, and it was possibly the best picture I have ever seen. |

| I have two Samsung's, both 40" LCS, one hooked up to the DVR with a HDMI and the other with a cable card. The picture is flawless esp Discover HD theater!
The ONLY quirk with Samsungs and the Cable Card is YOU MUST HAVE THE CORRECT DATE PROGRAMMED INTO THE TV OR THE CABLE CARD WILL FAIL! Took my 8 cable cards until we figured that one out. |

Seems like a wing-nut. But if you want to let his "advice" prevent you from buying the Samsung or going with FIOS, that's your call. |

| reply to Acerone I have a Samsung 4696 (46" LCD, 1080p) and the picture from my FiOS DVR has been great. One caveat: since I got the upgraded guide, I have had a green or black bar down the right side of my screen if I have the TV is JustScan (1:1 pixel mapping for 1080i output). If I put the TV in 16:9 mode (with some overscan) it's fine. |

| I wouldn't dismiss it outright, my samsung dlp has issues with Moto's HDMI signal. Component works fine, any other HDMI source works fine as well. We had a FIOS tech in house that pointed out that it was a known issue between motorola and samsung.
If you search here or avs, you will find quite a few more posts in regards to this. Samsung may have fixed the issue or FW releases for the STB have resolved them since I last tried but it definitely used to be an issue.
Does FIOS work with samsung tv's, yes, I love my picture and service. Have there been specific issues in at least the past with the STB's that Verizon deploys with FIOS(Moto in this case) and at least some Samsung TV's connected via HDMI, yes. |

1 edit | reply to Acerone I have 2 Samsung LCD's connected via HDMI, both have picture quality problems. A 40"LCD, and a 23" LCD.
Verizon's STB engineer has already told me the TV set's are not compatible with FIOS.
More than 75% of the LCD HDTV sets in the world are made in South Korea, either by LG or Samsung.
Big question is does Verizon not design their settop box software to be compatible with countless models of TV sets?
Or is there actually a problem with the TV's themselves???
Oddly my Samsung 40" is also equipped with a Cablecard slot, and the Cablecard does not experience the same problems as the Motorola DVR attached via HDMI.
Verizon needs to accommodate many more HDTV manufacturers with their software, instead of blame customers TV sets for their own software incompatibilities.
As has been documented here before, there are far more than Samsung HDTV's that are incompatible with the FiOS boxes.
Clearly Verizon needs to pull their head out of their a$$, and realize there are many more TV's that they need to recognize and support.

| Interesting. We've got a 50" plasma that's going on 6 years old. If/when it gives up the ghost, it will be replaced with something similar/bigger. If it were right now, I'd be buying a 70" Sony SXRD. But, who knows what the future holds. I am going to have to keep on top of this issue. |

I think most of the world's LCD displays are made by LG or Samsung, but the actual TV's (including the firmware you have problems with) are manufactured by individual companies. |

| reply to KA3SGM rather than fill an entire message boards with your gripes and complaints, why don't you move to another provider? whether u like verizon or not (and obviously u don't)...this is not 1980 and you have one choice in service provider.
there's more to life than spending all of it on message boards complaining |

So you change service provider because Verizon can't fix a compatibility problem? You shouldn't have to base your TV purchase around whether it is compatible with a major service provider. I am generally satisfied with Verizon but would be complaining too if I got the response KA3 got. |

| reply to MrTorben Are you able to use the HDMI now with your Samsung dlp? I am currently having an issue where I get a popping noise and screen static when I change channels. I have an HDMI connection. FIOS has replaced the box twice. Are you familiar with this issue and how they may have solved it? Any help you could give would be great! |

Honestly I have not tried it in over 12 months. I don't know if either company released any firmware updates, nor if VZ has added any fixes from Moto to the firmware that they push out. If there has been a supposed fix from either Samsung or Moto, please post back here and I will be glad to test it. |
