Timely.....

I have been with Cingular for years, and a few months ago we started having an abnormally high number of dropped calls. Everytime I see the billboard with this advertisement on it I chuckle.

Ditto. Since AT&T took over, my connections have been dropping quite a bit more. So much for "truth in advertising".

I am glad someone else is seeing it. The best response was "if you are going to an area where you know the call will drop, power off the phone."

I'd like to know when my apartment became an "area where you will know the call will drop" then. Seriously, this shouldn't happen in a fairly large city. It was FINE 8 months ago, and now its spotty. I'm lucky to get 4 bars now.

Even as I sit here at work, I'm only pushing 4 bars, when I used to get 7 the year before.

What phone shows 7 bars on the signal indicator?

The new at&t does have a big issue with dropping calls in Los Angeles. They got coverage everywhere, but the calls still drop for no apparent reason.

I can't even remember the time my Verizon phone dropped a call on me even if the signal was weak?

I don't drop calls with T-Mobile, I just run into a lot of dead spots.

Nokias show seven bars on some models, I had one and it would drop calls with a full signal. My Sony w810i all hold onto a call that isn't even showing a bar.

All of these, when they're getting perfect signal. Have you never seen a Nokia older than one or two years?

And it would make sense to reference a Nokia phone, since they make a lot of GSM phones....

I sense a bit of sarcasm there, as if you don't think that Nokia makes many GSM phones.

Since I've been with T-Mobile, I have had 5 different Nokia phones. Also, Nokia is the dominant brand of handset in most European countries, countries where GSM is the dominant, if not only network available.

NO! No sarcasm.

I know I have a reputation as a smartass (beats being a dumbass!) but Nokia is world known as a leader in the GSM phone market.

For a change, no sarcasm, just an observational fact...

AT&T did not take over. SBC (who purchased AT&T), owns Cingular. SBC changed Cingular's name to AT&T, to unify the AT&T brand.

Because right now I'm sitting on 2 when 6 months ago, I had 7.

Its a Nokia, like the others pointed out. It was one of those freebie ones that they gave everyone. I need to upgrade it at some point though.
