how much teeth do you think the DMCA really has?

atleast if pitted against true fair use. basicly i mean if the MPAA where to go against someone making copies of DVDs for conversion to Divx but for self use only(such as a laptop for plane trips). could they have a chance to win.
(the DMCA says its illegal to rip the DVD due to the encryption cracking, yet Copyright Law says you can make the back as its fair use).

Well that's the whole issue with the DMCA - it is in direct violation of the "fair use" laws. The MPAA & RIAA don't really care about "fair use" and they've bought enough CongressCritters to put their "don't care" into law in the form of the DMCA.
