Re: IMG Bugs and missing features FAQ

Do you think you could number the FAQ questions? So people can reference specific numbers when referring to this post?

Definitely. Someone else also suggested breaking it down into three sections. Missing features, Bugs, and General Support and adding dates when they were last updated. Hopefully that'll make it easier on the eyes! I also have a few more things to add to it so bare with me, it may take awhile. Updates and fixes are coming soon...

ETA: December 2007 (Joking! Sorry, I couldn't resist. )

Great job, sgr215. I really appreciate the effort you've put into this bug list. I hope the techs at Verizon are following this carefully.

For me, the worst bug is not being able to quickly delete a recording when I'm through watching it. I hate being dumped into the list of all recorded programs where I have to find the particular one I want to delete.

On the plus side, the Skip feature has been improved greatly. It's fast and smooth now. I have mine set for the one-minute interval. Three or four taps of the Skip button will quickly take me through the usual long, obnoxious blocks of ads.

Great job, sgr215! All the work you're putting into it is much appreciated.

I've found it helpful and I don't even have the new IMG yet

No problem, couldn't do it without the help from all of you.

BTW, dividing it into sections definitely helped organize it better. Thanks for the tip!

Well, I guess that you can always go back to the provider where you are coming from . I yet have to find one guide with no issues (this is my 3rd in 3 years). If you noticed, the list compiled in this thread is also about coming new features, user education and general support

Am I the only one that has gotten the "processing request" thing when I try to stop a program that is recording?

Another major irritant...using the pause feature (not recording, per se) & taking care of business-after 20 minutes or so, it goes live. Kinda blows the whole point of a pause, doesn't it?

As far as their guide goes-they should steal DishNetworks design. Best (and easiest) I've used.

Wonder if Verizon is releasing different versions for different regions ....

The cable onscreen guide had programs listed either by time or by channel. I liked being able to see one channel at a time, presented vertically, with the programming listed chronologically- ie 7:00, 7:30, 8:00, 9:00, 11:00 etc. On some channels you could see 12-16 hours of programming at a glance. Verizon uses by time, which calls for a lot of scrolling left and right to see what shows and movies are on a particular channel that day or days to come. The search function is nice, except when I keep searching for movies that aren't on. But, going to the cable network's website often allows you to see many days programming (or more) in advance, sometimes on a single page. I remember when HBO, Showtime ect. sent out monthly booklets listing all the movies and shows for each month. Sure was handy and made it easy to plan viewing and recording. Still, even though the guide takes some getting used to, I think it will be worth it. Anyway, I'm going to program my favorites so I can skip the home shopping channels and others I'm not interested in. But, hmmm! Why not his and hers favorites? We'd go for that. Mark F.

I have mentioned this in other threads but now that this is sticky I would like to put my two cents worth in.

I came from Dish Network and two features they had would make the guide a lot easier and maybe solve some of the gripes.

1) They had a selection to just see what channels you were subscribed to without messing with favorites. That way you do not have build anything special. It also leaves you to use the favorites for what you really want to put in there. (as a subtext they also had the ability to have multiple favorites lists for different people). Also to get to different views of the guide (full, only subscribed, and favorites) you only had to hit the guide button multiple times to cycle through the view selections.

2) ALL programs and movies had the year they were created not just some of the movies as in the Verizon guide. That comes in handy when you are viewing repeats of shows to see how old they are.

Yeah, I liked it in the old guide where the year was the first thing displayed. Now I have to hit info to see the year.

For the life of me I can't understand why they didn't give us the ability to delete channels we don't subscribe to or care about. I'm not talking favorites just deleting channels.

I had a problem recording sports programs as series but I noticed that I could do it today. I had a problem with ESPN earlier so i went and created manual recordings. I tried again today and it picked it up. Looks like they are making changes on the data. I dont think i received any new software.
It DOES appear to give you the option to "Record Series" now on shows like 'Rome Is Burning' and 'NFL Live' but it will only pick up that first show where you set up the series and not pick up any of the rest that should be scheduled. This is getting beyond ridiculous.

With most TVs we've had, you could add and/or delete channels. You could still call up the channel, if need be, by pressing the channel number on the remote, but during channel surfing, it didn't show up. But, that was with basic cable. The guide definitely takes some getting used to and is a bit quirky. But, once I get used to it, finding shows and movies I want to watch and/or record will be easier than now. Also, I was sure that the Pax and Retroplex networks weould be on FIOS, as they were on cable, but I can't find them. And, I can't find the TV Guide channel, just a pale version of it (the TV Guide Network?) with only sparse listings for local channels below reruns of Roseanne and Fresh Prince (Nick at Nite lite for those who only get the channels under 50?) The IMG says that the channel carries TV Guide programming, specials, Red Carpet interviews, etc, as we are used to seeing. Also, the TV Guide onscreen cable guide allowed you to change the colors of the guide. And, I do wish that we had the option of seeing listings by time OR by channel. Mark F.

I do have one more (stupid?) question. What do the different colors mean in the guide. I have some programs in blue, some in red, and some in green. What is the significance of the different colors?

TV Guide Channel changed their name to TV Guide Network. They do show Red Carpet interviews, etc. However they only show listings for channels below channel 50.

I have a bug to report that is not on this list (the green line bug)

With the new IMG update, a green line has appeared on the right side of the screen. The left side of the screen has a small distortion as well.

The green line is about 1/4" wide and spans the right side of the screen from top to bottom.

Some other people have this also and the IMG support phone number couldn't help (by resetting). A tech is scheduled to come out (that's what this person said).

Here's an issue I have, not sure if it's a bug or not...

Many programs in the guide seem to only have generic information, rather than episode specific details. So when looking at all episodes of a season pass, there is no way to tell the difference between episodes. Every episode just has the same generic series description.

A bug I discovered this weekend (had a fun time explaining this to verizon).

Try to record an upcoming soccer game on goltv (which I have through the spanish language package on channel 444).

Press "ok" when the option comes up to record program. Nothing happens (try all different ways to record program and nothing happens).

Create a series recording for that soccer game and it allows me to do it but then it immediately says (and I paraphrase) "series successfully schedule, however program won't be recorded due to a conflict"

Create a manual recording for that show on channel 444 and it tries to record the goltv that is included in the sports package which is on channel 313. Since I'm not subscribed to the sports package, that channel is black and therefore my DVR only records a black screen.

Another feature that seems to be missing (unless someone else can tell me how). There doesn't seem to be a way to extend the recording time of a show that is already recording.

Finally, I have not figured out how to start a recording from the beginning if it is a show that is currently being recorded.

That's all for now.

Alex

If you tune to 444 you actually get the station? I'm surprised they don't filter that out.
Also what do you mean you don't know how to start a show from the beginning while it's recording? With the old guide you would go into DVR recordings and it would show it as being recorded, you can't do that with the new guide? Also try tuning into the station while it's recording and press rewind. Someone pointed out that you can do that.
