Re: IMG Bugs and missing features FAQ

I think the biggest problem of all has to be the fact that the info on the guide is wrong so often. Wrong shows on the channel, Wrong episode info or no episode info or generic show info with no new or repeat info. I miss Comcast's guide so much. My girl is planning to call Verizon and find out how much early termination cost. It's worth it to get rid of all these headaches.

Two of my series DVR recordings never happened. I looked back at the description in the guide and it said "repeat" so that's why it was never recorded since I had it set to "new" The shows by the way were new. It's a bad chain of events: wrong guide info, no recording!

If you tune to 444 you actually get the station? I'm surprised they don't filter that out.
Also what do you mean you don't know how to start a show from the beginning while it's recording? With the old guide you would go into DVR recordings and it would show it as being recorded, you can't do that with the new guide? Also try tuning into the station while it's recording and press rewind. Someone pointed out that you can do that.
Yes, I can view the channell on 444 (as it is part of the spanish language package) but can't view it on 313 (as it is part of the sports package).

If a show is already recording, I can go into the DVR menu, find the program and it allows me to play recording from where it currently is but doesn't give me an option to start from the beginning. This is a problem for sports because it forces me to see the current score. Strangely, if I play the recording, pause it, then select it from the DVR menu, it will allow me to start from beginning. Probably confused you more with this explanation.

That's good to know about the pausing. Also I checked 444 on my box and it says not subscribed.

Here's an issue I have, not sure if it's a bug or not...

Many programs in the guide seem to only have generic information, rather than episode specific details. So when looking at all episodes of a season pass, there is no way to tell the difference between episodes. Every episode just has the same generic series description.
That is the guide data, and when I first announced I beta tested it, the same data was showing in the old guide and new. I think the info is guide release independent.

From what I've heard hear, and not elsewhere, someone (or two) reported that Verizon indicated they are looking at alternative providers of this info.

Would be a welcome relief only if the alternative is better!!!

I remember when TV Guide magazine had our local TV listings. Everything was there, down to the complete episode descriptions of shows, even old reruns of Gilligan's Island. But, it seems that the Verizon guide often has a generic descriptions of a show, not info on the individual episodes. Makes it hard to tell a rerun from a new episode. And, it's a pain trying to see what will be on later in the day or the next day on a particular channel. The guide just seems funkier than the cable guide we're used to and it's too easy to miss something we might want to watch. Maybe the guide will be updated to make it easier to use. Mark F.

Absolutely agree .... what were folks at Verizon thinking about the data, its not complete and much of a hassle to find reruns... but I do like their guide, if only it could have more information...

TV Guide figured out some 30 odd years ago that guide information was important to people. The outfit that Verizon uses seems to disagree with that philosophy.

But even TV Guide seems to have abandoned listings now in favor of more "entertainment coverage" What a shame!

With TV Guide, which is over 50 years old, I always could find out what was on and when. There was no other way to know what was on. One of the reasons that TV Guide abandoned most of their listings is that they were providing the listings through the TV Guide onscreen guides that cable companies used. And, that info was usually as complete and reliable as TV guide could make it. And, it was easy to find- no missing something you may want to watch. I don't know who provided the guide listings for verizon, but it isn't TV Guide. I have Verizon MSN Premium on my computer. And, when I click on the TV link they now offer our local FIOS listings as well as those for cable. Titan TV and some others still only offer the local cable line up. If the guide is updated again, I hope they make it easier to view the listings by channel. And, it seems that the TV Guide channel, at least here, no longer has celebrity interviews, info on upcoming prime time shows, specials that focus on reality shows, sitcoms, and so on. All we get is Nickelodeon/Nick At Nite above the scrolling local listings. Even if the FIOS guide says otherwise. Any chance that we can find out what's up with that? Mark F.

Green Line bug:

After the IMG release, my TV had a green line on the right side of the screen. A couple of other people I read had this problem too.

I called the FIOS support and the problem was kind of resolved.

My TV has two HDMI inputs (and this problem was only with the HDMI output of the FIOS box by the way).

When I switched the input in my TV from the originaly-used HDMI input to the other one the green line went away. Switching back to the original one showed the green line again.

This seems to point to a problem with the TV but then why did the problem not occur until the new IMG came? It is as if the TV has some memory of an original signal prior to the IMG and that the IMG has conflicted now somehow.

Anyway, thought I'd reveal this information since some other people had the problem.

Bug #1:

I have the DVR random reboot problem now. It happens about once per viewing.

In case you care, my specs:
Samsung 46" LCD 1080p TV
FIOS HD DVR box
HDMI cable between the two
Location: CA

6. Q: With the old guide I could turn the box off and press Menu to change resolution settings. This no longer works with the new guide. Is there still a way to do this?
A: Yes and contrary to popular belief you don't need to unplug your box! Simply turn off your box, immediately hit OK which will bring you into the diagnostic menu, turn off the box again and immediately hit Menu. You'll need to hit the buttons directly on the box itself and not the remote.

I do not have an "OK" button directly on my box. I have the Motorola QIP6416-2. I tried doing it on the remote, but nothing happened. Am I missing something or what is the correct way to do it?

For those who care, I'm waiting on updating the FAQ for a few days to see what happens when the new IMG is rolled out to other states. I keep hearing a new build is coming to those who don't currently have the IMG. If this happens the FAQ will probably need a major update so I figure I'll wait until then. I hope the rumors are right, it'll feel good deleting some of those major bugs off the FAQ.

Sounds smart to me. It looks like the PA/DE folks may be getting the IMG sometime soon as a couple of DE people got the mailer today. Course they've sent the mailers to others who have yet to get it. I'm sure hoping that a new(er) version of the software is what's loaded out with this next software push. Let's all hope!

How much more proof do we need that Verizon's TV group is run by a bunch of morons? There's no excuse for all these bugs. This is beta software at best (more like alpha, actually).

I'll give them a pass on the beta release if they're actively fixing the issues for the bigger markets. If NY/NJ/PA gets the same 3.40 release then there's a problem.

One bug I've noticed with the favorites (SD 2500-P2) is that every time I hit page-down while going down the list it cuts two of the channels I've selected off the end of the list. If I just cursor down one channel at a time I see every channel. However, if I hit page-down say five times while going down the list then the last 10 channels I've selected are not displayed. It's rather annoying since I always like to see what is on the PBS sub-channels and it takes some time to get to the bottom a line at a time, especially with the duplicate channels in the 500's, which I can't remove because of the connected bug. I usually just check those channels with the regular guide.
