Starting a few weeks ago, my internet connection completely drops. This happens a few times a day and the only way to fix it is by powercycling the cable modem. The modem is a RCA DCM 305 and I have a D-Link router. Here are my signal levels: »img168.imageshack.us/img168/9618···lev7.jpg
I can still do ipconfig release and renew and all the lights on the modem are normal when the connection drops, does anyone know what is wrong? |

just my opinion i have the same modem sometime i think the rca 305 is a problem modem. if you had it for five year and it is a rental swap it out. |

F.W.I.W, when you perform an ipconfig/release - renew from behind a router, you are renewing the LAN IP address that is being assigned to your computer by the router's DHCP server and not the Comcast WAN IP addy that is being assigned by them to your router...
Have you tried removing the router from the equation and seeing if the issue still exists ? |

| reply to redsox0717 you can also do a ipconfig /all to check the lease times. if it's moved down to an hour or so, there's probably some network maintenance. »Comcast High Speed Internet FAQ »Why is my IP lease down to 1 hour? |

3 edits | Performing an ipconfig/all command when behind a router will reveal the length of the LAN IP lease that is being provided by the built in DHCP server of the router, and not the IP lease length that is being assigned by their Comcast DHCP server.
In some router's configuration pages, on the "Status" page, you may be able to see the length of the Comcast WAN IP lease.
If this information is not available in the router's config pages, one has to connect their machine directly to the modem and issue that command to be able to see that information. |
