We will see how long it lasts. I bet Apple is already working on SW update to lock the phones again as they should.

It should be noted that those two links are not for the same unlock.

The engadget unlock is purely software.

As they should? You know the problem with cell phones in the US.. they all suck except this one phone. It does a ton of things, but it sucks too. It's just like when AT&T was the only people you could "lease" a phone from and they sucked. Look at the phones you can put into your house today. AT&T would not have made them as fast since they'd just release a phone with x feature, then to get the new x feature you'd have to upgrade.

Phones in other countries are leaps and bounds ahead of what we call a cell phone.

still I want my ipod touch....

Should Apple lock the phones, or should Cingular?

Apple. It's their code that those guys are messing with. I doubt it's legal.

You OWN the phone...what you do to it is your own business....it's when you start distributing a hack or selling, whatever, that the legal grounds get squishy....

LMAO. And what about other phones being unlocked? You don't see the carriers or manufacturers sueing the sites and people that perform these services?

Totally legal. If I buy a $500 phone I can shit on it, hit it with a hammer, modify it, tow it behind my car, whatever.

From the article:

There is apparently no U.S. law against unlocking cell phones. Last year, the Library of Congress specifically excluded cell-phone unlocking from coverage under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Among other things, the law has been used to prosecute people who modify game consoles to play a wider variety of games.

Bull Sh$@....you mean to tell me Apple can show up at my door and demand OS X be removed from my Mac machine?? The OS running on my iPod? The OS on an iPhone?

Ummmmm.....what are you smoking and where can I get some?

They own the raw code....once they sell the packaged OS, it's MINE...

Correct. The money you pay is to purchase a license to use the software. You do not own the software.

No....you agree to a EULA...but it says NOTHING about me hacking or destroying it....you agree not to redistribute it...
Same as an album...I can't make money from their work or redistribute but free to do with it as I please....burn the CD, rip it etc...

And if they try to revoke the license? I OWN that copy...and yes, I'm licensed to USE it. But that DVD is mine
