And how exactly will they do that anyway? The hell if anyone will let them touch their phone, and I highly doubt that kind of thing will hold up. It's one thing with a piece of purchased software (and I'm not even happy about that (or sure it'll hold up)), but it's another with a device so integrated with its software software.

Here in the US that is known as illegal. You can do whatever you want. Apple does not provide an unlocking service at no cost, so as long as your unlocking did not damage the phone the warranty is still in full force. Also just using it with another network would not void the warranty either.

Guess why there's no iPhone in Europe? Phone locking is illegal except for Germany & France (.. if my memory serves me correctly...) the countries where it's rumored their might be a release).
