I was in Minneapolis at the Doubletree. Didn't feel like braving traffic so ordered sushi and had it delivered. It was pretty good but not the best value for the money.

He's not ready to fish, he's still cutting bait.

Ever want to have a hand-held omelette? Well, now you can.

Diced up some garlic, onions and turkey pastrami and sauteed 'em up in butter with a shake of S&P and a dash of Bhut Jolokia powder for a nice bit of "wake the hell up".

While that was going on, I was whisking up two cage-free organic brown eggs with a bit of sambal olek, half & half, a dash of curry powder and a pinch of sweet basil.

Eggs went into the pan, then cooked until nicely browned but instead of simply folding over, I flipped it.

Then, I added slices of Colby Jack Cheese and a soft taco tortilla. Covered to steam the tort and melt the cheese and turned the heat off. After a couple of minutes it was melty and the tort was softened. Slid it out onto a plate and sprinkled with more grated sharp cheddar cheese. NOW it finally got folded.

Voila!

Deviled Eggs
Ingredients (12 deviled eggs)
6 hard boiled eggs
3-4 anchovy fillets
1 ½ tbsp small capers, drained
1 ½ tbsp mayonnaise
1 tbsp minced fresh parsley
¼ tsp paprika

Making The Deviled Eggs
1. Peel and slice each egg in half. Use a small spoon to gently pop the yolk out of the white.

2. Use a fork to mash up the egg yolks, until they are reduced to fine crumbs.

3. Mince the anchovy fillets. Then, use a fork to mash them to a paste. Mash them well, so they will blend easily into the yolk mixture. Note: If you think the saltiness of anchovies could be too strong, use 3 fillets. If you’re ready for more kick, go the full 4 fillets.

4. Add anchovy paste, capers, and mayonnaise to the egg yolks and blend the mixture. This yolk mixture should be quite creamy. If it isn’t, add some more mayonnaise.

5. Spoon the mixture into the empty egg whites. Sprinkle some minced parsley as a garnish, and sprinkle a pinch of paprika over each egg to add an accent.

OK, it isn't something to eat, but is a really good nightcap.

This Austrian malt liquor is *nothing* like the 40 ounce junk sold in wino bars here in the US. It's smooth, malty, sweet and warms the cockles of your heart on a chilly night.

A friend got it for me at John's Grocery in Iowa City. When we were there in July, I also picked up a nice sampler pack of Belgian ales and the last bottle of Linie Aquavit they had in the store (They can still special order it, though). Linie is my winter delight, served over ice with slices of spicy sausage and sharp cheddar on crackers.

Deviled Eggs

LOVE deviled eggs, a relative from the south calls them filled eggs, but because of her accent, I thought she called them field eggs.

Speaking of eggs.....

Todays Breakfast Pics!!!

Two jumbo eggs fried up in EVOO seasoned with Sambal Olek and crushed garlic, liberal kosher salt and pepper was applied.
Meanwhile, I toasted a big slice of Italian bread that had gotten a swipe of mayo and dijon mustard, then layered with American cheese and thin slices of smoked ham.

After flipping the eggs and turning off the burner, added a few strips of leftover cheese and a mix of paprika/pepper.

When the egg's cheese had melted, they went on the toast and munching commenced....

Hey guys 'n gals!

Roast Beast pix, so here ya go....

Super good deal on the approx. 4lbs worth of beast...that's cheaper than decent hamburger here.

I used a tray from my old rice cooker to keep it out of the liquid.
Liquid is: water, leftover BBQ paste, Worcestershire, black soy sauce, 1/4C of Grant's Whiskey, granulated onion/garlic, a bit of seasoning salt and misc. seasonings.

Rubbed with my DIY spicy BBQ paste, then sprinkled with kosher salt, garlic pepper, sweet basil, allspice and rosemary.

Many hours later, we have this....

And this. Yes, I'm using my huge old 1950's porcelain sink as a MacGyver'd lightbox of sorts.

Tastes better than it looks....the colors are a bit off I'm afraid. It's just silly-tender though.

Here's my DIY "Arby's" on the Bolillo roll w/ cheeze

Some of that is leftover turkey I had thrown in the cooker along with the roast to re-vamp it, some is the roast.

I'd had a bunch of 'scraps' besides the main hunks and figured a sammie was a plan.

Thx! Yeah, I prefer food that I know what is in it.

Roast also makes a nice burrito along with some chipotle rice w/ peppers & black olives I'd made. Piled on top of Colby-Jack Cheese slices, topped with Mexican Sour Cream and Habanero Chili Powder.
