a mistake on my christmas cookies leads to some humorous images. i ran out of Nilla Wafers while making my rum balls this year. 2 days later had more wafers and mixed them in, but it didn't seem to help. the rum balls were too runny to form into balls. fast forward 2 weeks. still not knowing what to do with this runny mixture, i bought some little pastry shells, packed the rum ball mixture into a plastic bag, cut off a corner and filled the shells. although a tasty dessert, would you agree that they look like sh*t? for those of you who follow a dog around with a shovel and bag, maybe these look a bit familiar... |

It really is idiotic to make steak doneness illegal - glad my area is not that stupid. |

This is what I tried when I was in NYC. The first thing that I felt was horrible, but they're really tasty. |

It's apparently not against the law to do med-rare here, some companies are apparently just protecting themselves.. Mostly I just get chicken though. |

Well, in the perfect world, yes, but not in the one the FDA allows. E. coli should never be on your meat. It is, sometimes, because of sloppy, greed-motivated processing and inadequate inspections. It is easily killed by cooking when it's on the surface as it would be on a steak. When the meat is ground, surface bacteria are mixed in and only thorough cooking can protect you from a potentially deadly bacterium.
Even so, I'm with you. I cook my own rare to medium rare. I almost never order one out.
edit: Probably not the ideal discussion for a thread about food pix. Yum. Back to the topic. |

Absolutely, Macca. How anyone could eat fine beef cooked past medium-rare is beyond me. (I'm blaming bad white balance here.) |

It is if it's served RARE, not like the shoes I'm wearing as it appears that one is.... |

Garlic-herb butter or buttery sauces like sauce Bearnaise are a pretty common complement to steaks - filet mignon in particular because, although it's the most tender steak, it's also the least flavorful.
My guess is that berries were used to color the butter in the shot above. |

This is slightly cheating since my wife took the photos. I was busy digging out from snow and baking cookies all day. In any case, here are some chocolate chip cookies that I made from Jessica Seinfeld's Deceptively Delicious cookbook.
The recipe said that it made 24 cookies, but I wound up with 40 cookies!
Here's a shot of my son eating one. Little does he know the secret ingredient....
.... is chickpeas! These were definitely a must-make-again-soon.

True but the subject of the thread only mentions posting a pic of what you ate today - not necessarily what you made and ate today...
don't worry though - I have another pic or 2 to do. Over the weekend I had to make 7 mini-loaves of banana bread and we had one left over that I have already started to eat. Since I have to make 7 regular loaves by this Thursday morning - I figured I would take a pic of the full loaves rather than the mini-loaf... |

Son's b-bay party on Saturday in Ohio - 4.5 inches of snow then rain immediately after - he turned 5 last Friday. We had it at a bowling alley hence the cupcakes - all with real butter cream frosting. |

On the menu tonight, spaghetti & meatballs with focaccia bread. The sauce is from scratch (if you can count starting with canned roma tomatoes as "scratch"). I use ground veal for the meatballs, but the local grocery store never has ground veal. Being the resourceful type, I bought some veal roast and ground it myself. The focaccia is flavored with olive oil and freshly shredded Romano. |
