| [info] Dry Loop Express DSL 1.5mb for $23.99?? Over on SlickDeals, there is a thread discussing the possibility of getting a dry DSL circuit from AT&T. The express for $23.99/mo without a phone, and without any surcharges.
Does anyone know anything about this?
The thread is here, thanks in advance - »forums.slickdeals.net/showthread···t=592270
If I could move my DSL over to a $24 per month dry plan, it'd be a snap to move my phone over to an IP company, and save a fortune every month. Would AT&T really slit its throat this way? -- "People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use." |

The AT&T Southeast region is being offered dry DSL at basically their prices (which are different and a little pricier than the rest of AT&T) plus a $5 dry line charge. Apparently they have a dial tone (maybe for wetting purposes and line usage identification?) on the dry line. but you can't call out. »SAFA (Stand Alone FastAccess) - Confirmed today |

Ok its is in the SE, has anyone confirmed you can't get it here? I don't know that anyone has determined if this is available in Connecticut. It would be very nice to know. Dry DSL would be less expensive for me with a VOIP service on my 2 lines for $199 / year. -- "People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use." |

 | reply to pandora I was able to get that offer here in Connecticut as well. I called in they offered a $5 discount on my existing bill which i did not take so they took my order to switch me to Dry line DSL. They however noted that this will result in me being without any DSL service for about 5 - 10 days (which is fine).

Murph1 join:2005-09-02 New London, CT | Ok, I was also able to sign up for this deal. I opted for the Pro speed at $28.99. I was at Elite, so it will be tough to lose the speed, but I'll live. The rep also said I'll be down for like 15 days! That will be really painful. Luckily, I know a few wifi hot spots around town.
These guys tried REAL HARD to get me to take the $5 off instead, but I was able to resist.
I hope they eventually offer dry loop at elite speed for the 5 buck extra increment. -- Murph |

 | reply to pandora I made this switch too. I get the ball rolling last Thursday. I just called my home number and it was disconnected as of today. Since the first part of the process is done. How long can I realistically expect it to take before I'm back in service. It would be nice if they would re-provision it when they take the old line off. Wouldn't that be less overall work since they were working on it anyway? |
|
 | reply to pandora I thought this particular dry loop service was only being trialed in Austin, Chicago and Jacksonville?

 | reply to pandora DSL was only down for about 24 hours instead of 15 days. Hope everyone else who switches is lucky too. I forgot that Dish Network will complain about not being connected to a phone line. I suppose I can argue that with them when it comes up. |

Murph1 join:2005-09-02 New London, CT | I too got back up and running very quickly. a day or two tops (not the 15 days they stated).
Problem though! I seem to be running at Express speed and not the Pro speed I signed up for. Can anyone help? (MrFixIt)? -- Murph |

 | reply to pandora I just signed up for the Dry Loop Service. I was on elite but was only getting upper 4megs so going to 3 shouldn't be too much of a issue. The best part is the money saving. 10-15 days they say scares me and I think its a scare tactic to keep your phone line. I did get the 911 scare but I'm fine with that. $28.99 for Pro service. Cant ask for much more than that. |
|
bennorPremium join:2006-07-22 New Haven, CT | Idlehand, what was the 911 scare they gave you?
I had thought that one could still dial 911 even without having phone service so long as the line was active. |
|
 | The Rep told me that with the Dry Loop you would not have a active phone even for 911. Now I was going by what he told me. I told him that my wife and I have cell phones and would be fine in case of an emergency. I got the "Cell phones are only good up to a 5 mile radius and will not give specific address even if you are unable to talk" It felt more like retentions then anything to be honest. |
