Acanac Free Trial

I know that they don't have a good reputation around here but you can get a free trial DSL login for Acanac. Here's the link if anyone is interested.

Seems quick this morning!

I'm not switching from Teksavvy but thought I'd try it out since it's free.

Unless you're so close to the Central Office you can see it. You'd be better off with TekSavvy or Bell.

//Acanac since May of this year.

I'm pretty sure they just peer with Cogent.

They don't *peer* with Cogent, they get their transit from Cogent only - to the best of my knowledge...:)

This would be one of the many reasons they try and undercut the market in my opinion....

Not sure how long it's good for but the offer is only until Aug. 28th. Here's what I got from Red Flag Deals post:

Try out our DSL Network Free of Charge. If you currently have DSL with Bell Sympatico or any other DSL provider (Note it might not work with all), please read below.

How does this work?

Since we all use the same DSLAM equipment, www.acanac.ca will provide you with PPPoE login information and you simply input this into your existing DSL modem, DSL Router or DSL PPPoE software. By inputing your new PPPoE login info you bypass your existing DSL provider and your traffic is sent through our Network.

Free offer ends August 28, 2007

Get your Free PPPoE login info by simply filling out this form: »https://www.acanac.com/cgi-bin/acanac.cg···DSL.html

*FAQ's:*

Do I still get unlimited downloads during this Free Period?

Yes, all Free trial accounts come with unlimited downloads and uploads.

Do I get regular support while using your free trial DSL?

No. All support will be limited to this forum. If you call our regular support line or email our support department they will not know you exist.

Do I need to contact my current provide to take advantage of this offer?

No. All you need to do is change the PPPoE login info.

How do I order your service after the Free offer ends on August 28 2007?

At any time you can place your order online.

Our current Promo is $18.95* based on a one year term. Your total fee for the year including tax will be $227.40* Canadian.

*(If you do not have a DSL modem Acanac will charge you an additional $49.95 security deposit fee. This is returned once the modem is returned.)*

If you have any other questions please feel free to post them in this forum.

Best Regards,

Acanac DSL service is not very stable, the line drops frequently. Sometimes more than a dozen times in a day.

Usually, the speed is about +/- 2M.

I hate myself in making a 12 mth contract with them.

Speeds are similar to Teksavvy and Velcom for me but I'd never switch as Acanac's customer service is not very good from what I've heard.

These are not issues within the control of any 3rd party DSL provider. They are within the domain of the telco - viz Bell. The problem with acanac is that it seems they accept what Bell gives them and tells the customer "Them's tough beans" and won't go to bat for their custoemrs with Bell.

It's great if you have a problem from 9 to 5...Monday through Friday. And you can get through.

I'm not sure how long the free trial lasts. I've had it for 6 days and it still works.

We extended the promo until September 5, but we will not take any new free promo orders after Aug 31. So if you singed up in the last few days you now have a few more days to test drive our DSL service.

Not bad at all , I am amazed at the speed they can offer. Now only if they could have monthly plans instead of prepaid, I could go their way .

It seems like they are not connected to any backbone except cogentco, not even toronto internet exchange . They got to have some back up, what if something happens to the single life line? Even the local traffic would stop.

Yes, speed is good.

I'm like you, I'd rather pay each month and be able to cancel anytime. I would use them as a backup login though if they offered a good price for a yearly contract. Currently pay $10 a month for backup, if they charged less I would consider it.

Right now I am test driving Acanac too.

I have good speeds:

However, my speed profile is currently set by Bell Sympatico at 5056/800. I am planning to quit Sympatico when my unlimited contract expires towards the end of November.

I have one concern for Acanac though. I am afraid that the good speeds that I am enjoying right now with Acanac test drive won't necessarily reflect the reality once I quit Bell Sympatico.

There is a common problem regarding Acanac for ex-Sympatico members joining Acanac. They enjoyed good speeds with Sympatico, then all of a sudden speed profile problems when switched over to Acanac.

TekSavvy doesn't seem to have this problem of getting the best speed profile for their new customers. I remember Paul L. once mentioned that TekSavvy might have a dedicated Bell Rep working for it, but Acanac doesn't have one yet.

So I am afraid that the 5056/800 that I have right now with Sympatico, I won't be able to get the same thing with Acanac, despite the fact that I am test driving Acanac @ 5056/800 right now.

This is my primary concern with Acanac and make me thinking twice about joining them, despite my good test drive with their free DSL account.

5056/800 is pretty much the default profile these days. There's no reason you shouldn't get it.

That's not necessarily true. Your profile is determined by your distance from the CO. Unfortunately not everybody is within the recommend distance and they wont be able to get 5Mbps.

The following is what happens when a Sympatico user moves to our service.

With Sympatico they might have put you on a remote, but when we submit an order to Bell for your new DSL connection they might put you on a different one altogether. Depending on the distance you might get a higher or lower profile. Our clients have encountered both scenarios, but I would say the majority of the time your speeds will remain exactly the same.

acanac has scammed another deal board into posting their free webhosting offer and free DSL offer all over the board. But look on google for a second and see how many people hate that company.
