Re: Acanac Free Trial

Hi Paul,

I tried to sign up for a trial account yesterday. It says that I'd be getting a response in 24 hours. But so far i haven't received anything. Would you be able to help?

Thanks!
Eric

Before I posted here in the forum, i actually called their sales number in toronto, and was not helpful. But 19 minutes after i posted, i got a trial user/password in my email. The response time was amazing!

Tonight, after everyone goes to sleep in my house, I will change the setting. I want to see if everyone else in the household will see the difference for the next week or so.

Thanks again for the help!

My free login still works after 2 weeks. I thought it would be disconnected by now.

I tried the speedtest this morning as well, one of the server i tested the speed also shows about the same speed as what Scoop has posted, even when i log back in to my sympatico account...

Anyway, i tried the test using a different server, and the speed was much better (~4kMbps)

So far the trial account seems good. My next step is to find a decent dsl modem for myself.

Does anyone know if we sign up with Acanac for one year, and if we have to move during the year, what happen to the contract? Can we continue the contract at the new place? will there be extra setup charge? What if the new place does not have dsl service?

Thanks

"My free login still works after 2 weeks. I thought it would be disconnected by now."

Since we are running same promo two months in a row at redflagdeals we decided to leave last months accounts active until the end of September.
Your speeds may very depending on the server you testing it on. You can always use our own speed test page as comparison. »www.acanac.ca/speedtest/

You can continue the contract in your new location. Also your first move is free. Every other move would cost $25. If your new place does not support DSL service we would refund you the remainder of your term.

Hi Paul:

My previous profile is 5M/800k and fast-G.DMT mode(with this mode, delay is under 10 ms between my home to your gateway router), during the jack issue, Bell changed to 2.5M/512k and Interleaved-G.DMT (which much stable but higher delay, 40ms between my home to your gateway router), after I fixed the jack, Bell changed to 5M/512k and Interleaved-G.DMT, I want to completely change back because my line can handle this, but it looks they only care about download speed.

We allow numbers to be ported out, but we are currently not porting any numbers in. As for other Voip companies it will depend. Some allow all porting and some do not.
So, then, if my friend switched to Acanac from Teliphone, he'd have to change phone numbers? I don't think he'd be willing to change phone numbers to save $10 per month.

Still, when you start your free trial, I will tell him about it and try it myself. I've been using my pay-as-you-go cellphone as my primary phone (expensive!) and have tried to use SkypeOut to save money, but it's not ideal.

"I want to completely change back because my line can handle this."

Please submit a ticket to our support department. Please keep in mind that it will probably take 48 hours for Bell to complete the change.

We do want to offer number porting in the future, but we need to get more automated first. We had a few test runs and we were not happy with the results.

Best Regards,
Paul L.

Well, I opened 3 tickets to them just for the mode change (from interleave to fast-path mode), the first time, they only upgraded my speed, no mode change. second time, they said they can do it, then after two days, I found nothing changed, the email they replied me said my profile already come back to 5M, what do I need? So I opened the 3rd request for the same request...

Are you referring to the PPPOE user name? It would not be at Bell.ca. it would be something like your-user at acanac.net

I remember Paul said that they're going to run a free voip trial at the end of this month. Has it started? How does it work?

Hi. I'd be very interested if I could bring in an existing cellular number. The VOIP FAQ at Acanac's website said the port could take as little as 10 days, but as much as 3 weeks, 10-21 days. That would still be okay for me.

So what's the verdict - can port with a wait or absolutely cannot?

Hi Paul,

After reading through the comments here, I'm ready to jump on with Acanac. I just experienced the worst rogers customer service ever. I will never go back to them. I would like to try it first. I remember signing up for free trial couple weeks ago but since I dont have a home phone, will I still be able to get the free trial service? Will this modem work with Acanac »www.canadacomputers.com/index.ph···d=NT.541

Please let me know asap, I don't really want to go with Bell. TOmorrow early morning, I'm returning Rogers modem and cancelling their service.
