Re: Thomson SpeedTouch 5x6v6 FirmWare v6.2.H (v6.2.17.5) Anyone know the telnet command to get the modem to resync dsl? I know theres "system reboot", but thats a full reboot of the modem, and I dont want that.
TIA. |

 | You won't even need the TelNet CLI bible (which i'd bet must be mentioned somewhere in this thread) if you use the "Debug" mode in 'DMT v7.35'!... Pardon me, it would be a pleasure to check that myself but only my tweaked TP-Link TD-8841 would keep me connected at 5056/800 Kbps FastPath (my profile since mid-2008) these days!...

brassy join:2004-01-09 Brantford, ON 1 edit | Cant use DMT, thus I need the telnet command, maybe if you can remember, when you use the button, to sniff the data it sends. |
|
 | I'm afraid the 'DMT' [DSL Resync] button is greyed out if there's no real connection to the ST, just as i expected!
Under 'WinE'/Linux, 'DMT' would run hapily but since that doesn't seem to be an option then i suggest you try the "menu" command to speed up a local TelNet CLI search... |

 | reply to Bicephale I'm looking to downgrade my firmware to 6.1.0.5. I have ZZQ2AA6.105.bin firmware and teh zzq0aa6.105.bin variant but neither seem to work.. the modem will loop and give me "wrong boot mode" message once restarting R4421 firmware update program. Anyone in this forum have a working firmware update program and firmware version for 6.1.0.5? I use a 516v6. |

 | reply to Bicephale Thank you, bicephale! I was looking for that firmware and working firmware udpate program because when using 6.1.9.6 with DMT unlock options the modem frequently disconnects regardless of SNR margining (default for me is 6.5-7.5 dB). Hopefully this will install and properly boot up with my modem and the modemoptions tabs in DMT will be more stable for me. |
|
 | I'm glad if this can be of use!

Sorry but FirmWare v6.1.9.6 was made 'DMT'-hostile by design, v6.1.0.5 is the last version which i can recommend to a regular user... FirmWare v6.1.4.6 works reasonably well but it was part of Thomson's effort to discourage the ST5x6 owners from using 3rd-party tools like 'DMT' (limitations were mild on it though).
As for spontaneous resets, in my opinion that's a characteristic of the whole SpeedTouch line itself. Under harsh conditions you would be better advised just to spend some of your money, time and energy on the TP-Link TD-8841 or similar:
»TP-Link TD-8841 MoDem - Exploration & Discoveries Part 2
Right now i am facing the option to switch to cable because my DSL signal degraded so much only my TP-Link TD-8841 will keep me connected at the advertised BitRates (via 'DMT' Tweaking):
»MoDem & Bell Portal BitRates both concur to be false!
None of my 6 other MoDems can compete with TP-Link's TD-8841 mainly because they lack the versatility provided by its tweaking features. FirmWare v6.1.0.5 or v6.1.4.6 on two of my 3 ST5x6 do not even allow those Thomson to enter the race... I've tried hard to verify how the ST's reputation revealed itself in real life:
»From the ground up!
My conclusion is that the frenzy around such a product was quite a bit exagerated, to say the least! As a result, this thread doesn't deserve its "sticky" state: it should be left alone to die, actually...

|
|
|
 | reply to Bicephale really? that's most unfortunate. I can understand as to why you directed me to that post earlier ( to make the speedtouch more stable by making edits to the PCB itself)? How about the stability with DMT tools with the products you listed? |
|
 | A strong point with Thomson's SpeedTouch 5x6v6 series is that it's relatively well "documented" but lets keep in mind that this resulted from a genuine drive to compensate for its limitations, if you see what i mean...
The "De-Brick" thread suggests that a locked ST5x6v6 can still be forced to install any FirmWare of your preference but you're not going to find one which would fix the ST's main pitfalls, like its spontaneous reset syndrome and/or its "bleeding" syndrome.
I can think of only one HardWare-based method to stabilize the SNR Margin woes, which in turns should reduce the likelyhood of those two syndromes: i refer to this method as "RF Choking" in my posts and it's not proven to work in all cases.
As for whatever remains of the tweaking features provided via Thomson's FirmWare itself, my sincere advise to you is to spare yourself from the frustration of trying unless you're only dealing with some mild issue that other products can handle too, even the GNets which i found to compare favourably, despite what i was told by many professionals!
The TP-Link TD-8841 is designed around the BroadCom ChipSet too but the similarity stops there... It's supported by a different 'DMT' build (e.g. v8.07 instead of v7.35), actually. Consequently, the same "De-Brick" tool may work for the TP-Link TD-8841 and since it's also already relatively well documented then i find more appropriate to promote the TP-Link. The SpeedTouch sold/sells at inflated prices anyway so that's certainly not an incentive to investigate further, not to mention that Thomson themselves is now pushing on the TG after they dropped that old series which some hoped would never die!... |
|
 | reply to Bicephale you're right on the inflated prices part! I checked several stores on the TP-Link 8841 model you suggested and it comes at a whopping price of $30 all across the board! That's 1/2 price what I paid for the SpeedTouch 516v6 model. once I get that model you suggested I'm free to do whatever the hell I please with the speedtouch. I also have a 2wire rented from bell but for obvious reasons I don't want to have to resort to that awful thing as a modem. |
|
 | There's been multiple favourable comments about Bell's 2Wire, the problem with it is that the customer doesn't own it! As for TP-Link's TD-8841 (non-T), this particular model is a mid- size variation of the same design (4 LAN ports, no WiFi).
Mike2009 has the full-blown variation, i vaguely recall it's the TD-W8920G or maybe the TD-W8960N (i'm not sure anymore).
If i'm not mistaking, the TD-8811 is the minimalist version but i can't pretend i'm sure there neither... What's important is that the model you pick offers the Spectral Shaping feature, IMHO:
 OrbMT on D-Link DSL 2320B, Bicephale, 2009-Feb-22
...including support by 'DMT v8.07', most evidently!...

|
 | reply to Bicephale what firmware is recommended for my 546v6?
I am currently running Software Release: 6.1.0.5 but find the port forwarding feature on this model to be very buggy and was hoping a different firmware may fix this issue.
Any recommendations? |
|
 | Euh...
I'm sorry but i can't offer much advise relatively to the "router" aspect: my "field of expertise" focused on the DSL side and it's now all old story for me because i've switched to cable lately...
