Verizon Eliminates Bundle Discounts effective September bill

Hi.

Copied from today's bill:

Notice of Rate Change
Starting with your September 2007 bill, the $5.00 Verizon Bundle discount will be discontinued. Please call a Verizon representative at 1-800-483-4000 if you have questions or want to learn about other Verizon packages that offer monthly discounts.

I called and was told my bill would go up $15 plus taxes on the next bill. I currently get THREE $5 discounts, one for each of their three services.

What a load of crap!!!

Don

1) What plan were you on?
2) When did you sign up?
3) How long have you had all 3 services?

Have I mentioned I'm connected on FiOS?

Hi.

Had FIOS installed more than two years ago. I have all three services. Phone, Internet, and Cable. They didn't have contracts here back when I signed up so I was never on one.

I've had Fios for a year I just got a letter saying my 15/2 service would increase in price from $44.95 to $57.95!

Are you eligible for a contract now?

Part of me says, if you're happy w/the service and it's less expensive(than say Comcast) without the discount stick w/it.

The other part says tell Vz to stick it. You were obviously an early adopter and I'm sure sat through some technical woes while Vz "practiced" the Triple Play phenom. Should be worth something. It's always a bum when your bill goes UP^.

I have not seen these mailings, but if they are as implied, the Verizon marketing department is incompetant. They are making it sound like the price is going up on these packages, when they should be telling customers that they must renew for a year if they want to continue at the lower rates.

The bundle discounts only last for the duration of the contract. Once it expires, you must renew your contract to maintain those discounts. Your price will never go up while you are under contract.

The 5/2 (10/2 where available) and 15/2 (20/5 where available) plans did not increase in price.

It can be confusing when Verizon quotes you the month-to-month (no commitment) price when you are used to paying the one-year contract price. The one-year contract and month-to-month (no commitment) prices are completely different.

For example, the $57.99 quoted to the above member is the current month-to-month price for 15/2 (20/5 where available). That's nothing new, that's the same as it was back in January.

The one-year contract price for 15/2 (and 20/5) is still $49.99/mo, which is what the above member was paying, excluding the bundle discount. In most areas, you should still be able to get the bundle discount by committing to another year of service.

Verizon has eliminated the no-contract, month-to-month bundle discounts. Now there is a single $5/mo bundle discount for committing to one-year of Internet and TV. There is a larger discount for the 'triple play' (Internet + TV + phone) two-year commitment. In some markets, Verizon also offers TV + 5/2 Internet for $70/mo with a two-year contract.

Verizon also changed how the bundle discount is applied. Last year, the bundle discount was applied to FiOS Internet, reducing the 15/2 (or 20/5) plan from $49.99 to $44.99 and the 5/2 (or 10/2) plan from $39.99 to $34.99. Now that bundle discount must be applied to FiOS TV service, reducing it from $42.99 to $37.99 for new customers or from $39.99 to $34.99 for older customers. It may also be possible to get $5/mo off the movie package in addition to that.

Your price will not go up during your contract.
If you call to disconnect, you might be able to get a package, one that's a better deal, depending on your needs.

I did get the letter also.
Last week.
It was going to 57.99 from 39.99.
I called on the Friday they gave me a package deal.
It's for two years better phone package same Tv and Internet 15/2 It's .80 more.
So the best thing is to call them and see what they have to offer.

This is a game the phone companys play, it starts here then goes way up to here.

They have done it for years with other services, it is a game to make money, they give you a good deal to get you to sign up, then they go up on the price, and if verizon does that to me again, someone who just has phone, im going to be pissed.

It has happen to me a few times with them, i had a great deal, then it went up, they even had the nerv to tell my i was on the phone too much, welllll duhhhhh, i use dial up to get on line, when i DL something, it takes forever, their for i leave my computer connected a long time and go to bed just to DL a file, i dont thin i would be on so much if i could get a faster connection so i could get things done quicker.

Also if it was not for this game they play, a lot would not be going to VOIP services namely Vonage.

They are screwing themselves over i say.

More people have to put up with crap, the more will leave them and the less money they will make.

It is funny though, what is causing them to lose money is their own fault and or doing..

Now i am worried to just call for another line.. in fact.. im going to see about a couple of extra lines, im going to need it for when i get ISDN service, which needs 2 lines that will be connected a lot, it is their fault for not caring about their customers like they should.
But im worried their would be problems with the instaler coming out because of another thread i read on here. grrrr

Verizon, you blow.

The same thing happens with DSL annual discounts...you have to renew them when the notice appears on your bill. Once you do, your discount re-appears. Call them as the others have and work out a deal...
