Can anyone please tell when/if Charter is going to get around to getting HSI in the area? I was told over 3 years ago that it was in the area before I moved with an *apparent* "truck roll". I go to order and lo and behold oh you can't get it. Anyway I'll stop there before this post goes to rants/raves.

So I have been trying to get some kind of access besides dial-up. Wireless seems to be shot and DSL is out. So I am getting a little totked.

So if anyone has any info that would be great.

Thanks Tim

As far as areas like Barnhart go, if you are not serviceable, there probably isnt anyone that can tell you when on here. Couple of reasons for this. Call Center cannot tell you either. Best bet is someone local. There is HSI service in Barnhart, not sure why you wouldnt be serviceable...have you checked lately?

As of yesterday when I posted Charter's site only listed CATV for my address. I am basically at Old 21 and M.

Hellgod: Which company are you with Browndog or Nightowl?

Update

Just for grins I called charter today to check for service. The guy said in the billing system I can get HSI, Telephone, and CATV. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Well Charter fails me AGAIN. Tech came out today climbed the pole and no internet. I talked with him on the phone, I wasn't at the house, and found out a few things. The system servicing my area is 10 years old. Also if I was near I-55 I could get HSI. But there is an area south of Shadey Valley and north of ?Schradge? Road that dosen't have it and I am in that area. Was also trying to get from him when/if it would be available and he didn't know. And from what he sees the upgrades are willy nilly. An area can not be upgraded then a week later the throw in the equipment and bam. And after 4 years with Charter he still dosen't know who is in charge of the upgrades.

Did you read my post? Call Center = Waste of Time.

Local Office might know, while unlikely. Only option is local office personnel. If you talk to someone who knows someone in the project office you might get lucky.

I would talk to someone in a local office if I knew where one was. Every Charter building I know of is now vacant. And for that matter the feild tech didnt even know anything.

The local charter office for your area is on Jeffco. Just south of Telegraph Rd. On the right side if you are going south. There is a pawn shop and a few other shops in an old strip mall. I've been there a few times.

They need to take down the sign on the old location.

I live about 100 yards from the old Charter building on old 21. Looks like nothing is in the building but there is a fenced in area with sat dishes just next to it.

ok i know where you are, i think i remeber doing your survey, i know where you CAN get HSI from... Browndog networks and they would need 900mhz there try them!

Already had Browndog out. Cannot get a stable signal. The guy said something about going on my neighbors house but he won't return a call now.

So, maybe your next option is Sprint EVDO service? Not quite as fast, but much better than dial-up!

Is T1 an option? I understand if the cost may put you off, it certainly doesn't fit the sub-$100/mo. bracket that people are interested in. But it's fast enough, very reliable, and available anywhere.

If you are seriously going to consider cell phone Internet, you really only have one choice: Cingular 3G.

Sprint - I haven't heard anything positive about them lately.
Verizon - Has a 5GB monthly transfer cap; not good enough for PCs.
T-Mobile - They don't have 3G yet, but at least they're GSM.

Another thing: Cingular doesn't appear to offer Internet on anything less than a one-year contract, so...don't get anything other than a one-year contract, even if the upfront cost may be a little more. Why? A) Things can change in the next year, and maybe you won't need the 3G anymore, and B) contracts are evil, due to their high early exit costs.

You can also sell the cell phone modem when you no longer have a use for it.

I'm in the same boat. Wish they would hook us up to the Arnold plant. Anyway...EDGE (no 3G in our area)is an option, I only get about 150-200kb out of it. Better than dailup but not much better. I may try Sprint out at the begining of the new year. I was also in a bad spot for Hellgod and Brown to get signals to

T-1 is out, to much $$$ a month. bassnguitar how much a month is the cell access? Is there usage restrictions? And what kind of CPE is it, ethernet hookup or.....? I got a desktop and notebook that need the connection and have a wireless router.

Also I am trying to get up to the local office and talk to someone but my work schedule right now is not allowing it.

bassnguitar where are you at in Imperial? Ny parents are in Imperial and had HSI from Charter for some time now.

I'm off of Old M. We are stuck on the Otto plant, while the other plant runs half way down old m. My friend just a few miles from me in Imperial can get all of what charter offers.

With the cingular/at&t it is $60 unlimited (plus cost of the card, cost depends on specials and whatever)just like sprint. If sprint isn't as fast as the at&t then I'll dump it. at&t cards are all laptop cards where as sprint, you can get a laptop card or a usb card. As far as restrictions, I haven't run into any except the slow speed of the edge network. My wife says that when she hits Arnold, the 3G kicks in, which she says acts like real broadband.
