$80/month? Wayyyyyyyyyyyyy to much. And I doubt you get anywhere near 16Mbps anyway.
I pay $72/month for 20/2 from RCN. Is that wayyyyyyyyyyy too much?

No really, is it? haha! I don't mind paying.
I say it is. My DSL is only 3Mbps/768K but it's only $24.99/month. And when fios becomes available I can get it for $29.99/month for 10Mbps/2Mbps.

On top of that, FIOS is $30 dollars cheaper for standalone for 15/2. I'm not sure how Charter sees that as competing.

I will never understand cable companies pricings, it's like they don't even want to be competative.

Add in your POTS and all its associated bullshit fees and you're way over $40/month!

POTS is not expensive. I get unlimited calling US and Canada WITH taxes for $48. Not that bad if you ask me.

But with just about any cable company you can get wayyyyyy more than 3mbps for what you're spending but if you DON'T have a cellphone then i guess what you have is a pretty good deal with DSL.

if you're the only game in town you don't have to be competitive.

I mostly agree with that.

Where I live, Charter is the only option that costs less than $100.

I have Charter Business Internet for $67 and it's not very reliable. But, I can't expect them to because of a lack of an uptime guarantee. However it's bad enough that I have a dial-up account with Copper.net just in case Charter goes out. The dial-up as backup is good enough because while I don't *always* need fast downloads, I do like to be able to do basic things no matter what.

Truth be told, there are ALWAYS other options. T1 and higher is always an option, albeit a pricey one. The question is, are there other options in the sub-$100/mo. bracket?

If Charter charged $400/mo., then I'd just go for T1, and that's probably what everyone else would do, or just not get fast Internet (among those who don't consider it important).

All I know is that when my apartment lease expires, I'm making sure I can get DSL at the next apartment. Anyone else interested in the same thing can look at whitefence.com, which can tell you what you can get based on street address.

LOL. I get unlimited US/Canada calling for about $1.50 a month with my non-POTS solution.

POTS is expensive, and it is ridiculous for the telco to require you to purchase it to get DSL service.

I feel bad for you guys. So mostly charter is just taking advantage of you guys because their is no one to challenge them and make them give reasonable prices.

Personally, price is much more important to me than speed. I find 3Mbps plenty for what I do. Browsing the web is lightning fast, and I almost never download a file more than 10MB. I probably avg a total of 10-15MB a wk or less of total downloading.
