1 edit | Re: [OOL] Boost Insane Speeds? What was your doing when you had problems ? Mine will be at 25 to 32 mb and then out of no where it drops to 15 to 17 mb and sits there for a while and goes right back up to speed when it feels like it. Other people in my town have the same issue so i know its not just me. I didn't really have issues till early this year and i had Boost before it was even advertised. I had Boost and my friends were still on 10/1 !
Its a stupid problem and shouldn't go on this long !!

| Re: [OOL] Boost Insane Speeds? I tested the speed. I am now getting at most 29.5 mbit. I tried diferrent download tests, including WinXP SP2, Usenetserver with 20 connections to diferrent servers, and combinations. Anyway it was done, either one down or combination of downloads my max was 29.5. So my modem is no longer capped but somewhere along the line in OOL's network, the cap does exist. Hopefully that will change soon too.
BTW, for the past year, I never got above 26mbit for a single moment. Now I get 29.x constantly.

1 edit | Re: [OOL] Boost Insane Speeds? Keep in mind that the advertised speed is still 30/5 for Boost.
The possible reason we are getting 30mbps, even a little higher, is because CV might have increased the max speed to 33 mbps or so to allow for the overhead of TCP.
FIOS users were quick to point out that they get the advertised speed unlike us OOLers who always got a few mbps less.
Perhaps CV removed the so called cap to be on an even keel with FIOS at least as far as Boost is concerned.

For me I am lucky that I do get 30-32. Perhaps my nodes are not as saturated as yours.
I had a talk with a plant operations guy a few weeks back and he said they were going to change the number of households on the nodes in my neighborhood from 500 to 150.

1 edit | Re: [OOL] BOOST is double plus good! (In Orwellian Newspeak) I had to raise the bar on my bandwidth graphs to 38mbps as I often hit ~35mbps now a days
If someone told me a few years ago we'd have uncapped kickass connections with nice upstream, from Cablevision, I would've questioned their sanity and knowledge of the market.
As long as our friends at CV do not oversell the product beyond it's ability to increase capacity to match, we'll all be very happy
No fanboy here by any means, but lately, CV is doing everything right. -- Regards, Dave

Very pleased with the upload on Boost. Yeah, it is weird.. I mean, I can pull 15mbit from a distant server, but I can't upload at all? What the hell???? I always wondered why the upload is always less efficient than download, I know it isn't symetrical but that still doesn't explain why one has a greater proportion of usable bandwidth over a long distance.

| hey guys, i just got boost and im a little disappointed with my speeds. when i had regular ool my speed was about 12mb, now that ive upgraded my speed is 14-16mb. Thats not really worth the upgrade if you ask me, do you guys think there is anything i can do to get closer to 30mb?
I've tried plugging the modem(sbv5120) directly into my computer, and ive tried the tweak tester and it said everything was ok.
