I did same speeds. Downloaded another file from ms website...101meg...peaked at 6.5 down. Literally came down in seconds.

Yep.. I think all Boost modems are now uncapped on the OOL network. So you can download as fast as the network can possibly go.

I doubt that will ever happen.

No. I said i doubt they will uncap the modem. Are you getting max upload, also?

Oh Alcohol of little faith ;)

They're removing the upload download configuration limit on a geographic basis. Mine was done about 2 weeks ago:

Re: [OOL] Boost Insane Speeds?

It's been reported for months, and my post showing the actual output of DOCSDIAG was simply to confirm:

for BOOST customers, the modem configuration download limit of 30000000 is removed. That's why I referred to the earlier poster who still shows the download value at 30000000. That geographic are has not been "upgraded" to the new modem configuation.

They have not and are not removing the configuration limit on the upload, which remains at 5000000, and I never suggested they were doing otherwise...

umm.. they have uncapped the modem. What rock are you living under?

Upload still has the normal cap, but that's supposed to be getting upgraded to 10Mbit (take that with a grain of salt though).

No tweaks. New computer. As Morbid Angel noted, it's Vista. In reply to ThinkDiff, I do believe BOOST users are now uncapped on the download.

It's only because he is using the amazing Vista OS :P
The most I hit with Boost on a download is about 4.04MB/sec. That is when the entire town of Bethpage is sleeping at like 3am haha

As long as you get close to advertised speeds what else matters. I have the download cap removed and now my line sucks worse than 15/2 with Boost so be happy if you get the speed.

What was your doing when you had problems ? Mine will be at 25 to 32 mb and then out of no where it drops to 15 to 17 mb and sits there for a while and goes right back up to speed when it feels like it. Other people in my town have the same issue so i know its not just me. I didn't really have issues till early this year and i had Boost before it was even advertised. I had Boost and my friends were still on 10/1 !

Its a stupid problem and shouldn't go on this long !!

Re: [OOL] Boost Insane Speeds?

I think I have stated to you before. How do you know its not somebody with boost who is abusing their connection who is on your node. If thats the case then cablevision can only cap that person and kick them off but if cablevision did that then people would go crazy anyway.

Re: [OOL] Boost Insane Speeds?

I tested the speed. I am now getting at most 29.5 mbit. I tried diferrent download tests, including WinXP SP2, Usenetserver with 20 connections to diferrent servers, and combinations. Anyway it was done, either one down or combination of downloads my max was 29.5. So my modem is no longer capped but somewhere along the line in OOL's network, the cap does exist. Hopefully that will change soon too.

BTW, for the past year, I never got above 26mbit for a single moment. Now I get 29.x constantly.

Re: [OOL] Boost Insane Speeds?

Keep in mind that the advertised speed is still 30/5 for Boost.

The possible reason we are getting 30mbps, even a little higher, is because CV might have increased the max speed to 33 mbps or so to allow for the overhead of TCP.

FIOS users were quick to point out that they get the advertised speed unlike us OOLers who always got a few mbps less.

Perhaps CV removed the so called cap to be on an even keel with FIOS at least as far as Boost is concerned.

Just my 2 pesos.

In some areas they get advertised speeds but i bet almost half of the areas dont even get 20 to 25 mb like mine. Dont offer the speeds if you cant even give half of it.

I suppose all the problems that affect speed over cable still applies even with the cap removed.

For me I am lucky that I do get 30-32. Perhaps my nodes are not as saturated as yours.

I had a talk with a plant operations guy a few weeks back and he said they were going to change the number of households on the nodes in my neighborhood from 500 to 150.

I doubt that would ever happen here because every few blocks they would need a new node.

Re: [OOL] BOOST is double plus good! (In Orwellian Newspeak)

I had to raise the bar on my bandwidth graphs to 38mbps as I often hit ~35mbps now a days

If someone told me a few years ago we'd have uncapped kickass connections with nice upstream, from Cablevision, I would've questioned their sanity and knowledge of the market.

As long as our friends at CV do not oversell the product beyond it's ability to increase capacity to match, we'll all be very happy

No fanboy here by any means, but lately, CV is doing everything right.

I'm hitting 32-32mbps/4mbps here in southern Bergen County on the Oakland system...

The most I got before on Boost was 23-24mbps down... My upload hasn't really changed..

I got a question for you guys. What is it that when testing to far away locations you can still pull 15mbps out of a 30mbps connection, but you may only get 1mbps upload out of 5? Is there a reason why the upload would drop even if 5mbps is such a slow rate?

I get an easy 500K/sec from NY (OOL) to LA (USC). Sometimes it hits 600K/s. Very pleased with the upload on Boost.

Yeah, it is weird.. I mean, I can pull 15mbit from a distant server, but I can't upload at all? What the hell????
I always wondered why the upload is always less efficient than download, I know it isn't symetrical but that still doesn't explain why one has a greater proportion of usable bandwidth over a long distance.

Re: [OOL] Boost Insane Speeds?

Speed tests have been posted in the speed test forum. My computers do average on the speed tests anyway. From day one I've always been able to get better speeds from higher bandwidth sites than the speed test sites, especially Parsippany.

Not doing TOO great in North Edison/Iselin area (Piscataway plant). I can peak at 30 Mbps sometimes late at night, but this has been pretty typical the last 2-3 weeks. Uploads max at about 3.5 but sometimes hit close or right at 5 (not very often).

Restart your modem.
Run docsdiag to see what the limits are. They should be 30/5 or 0/5 (no download limit).
If not, then call CV.

hey guys, i just got boost and im a little disappointed with my speeds. when i had regular ool my speed was about 12mb, now that ive upgraded my speed is 14-16mb. Thats not really worth the upgrade if you ask me, do you guys think there is anything i can do to get closer to 30mb?

I've tried plugging the modem(sbv5120) directly into my computer, and ive tried the tweak tester and it said everything was ok.
