1 edit | reply to La Luna Re: [OOL] Boost Insane Speeds?
said by La Luna :Not sure what the 16000 represents. This 16000 is the bandwidth allocated for the OV Svc, The OV svc and OOL have Separate Svc flows or Bandwidth allocated for each svc.
The Svc flows are there, so you should get decent speeds. 14-16mbps that's not the greatest. Figuring I was getting the full 15mbps on the basic tier. Even with your Linksys router you should be able to get boost speeds. I'd say fare would be mid 20's mbps. Also try disabling any firewalls running on your PC to see if that might be causing the problem for you. |

Looks like you have the uncapped Boost download (zeros) and 5000000 upload configuration. Not sure what the 16000 represents.
Have you tried hard rebooting your modem (unplug from the power source, wait a couple of minutes, then plug back in)?
If that doesn't work, call them, sometimes they have to kick start it.
EDIT: spelling.

| reply to kdshapiro hey guys, i just got boost and im a little disappointed with my speeds. when i had regular ool my speed was about 12mb, now that ive upgraded my speed is 14-16mb. Thats not really worth the upgrade if you ask me, do you guys think there is anything i can do to get closer to 30mb?
I've tried plugging the modem(sbv5120) directly into my computer, and ive tried the tweak tester and it said everything was ok.

Not doing TOO great in North Edison/Iselin area (Piscataway plant). I can peak at 30 Mbps sometimes late at night, but this has been pretty typical the last 2-3 weeks. Uploads max at about 3.5 but sometimes hit close or right at 5 (not very often). -- -Sterling |

| reply to Thinkdiff said by Thinkdiff :I don't know what's up with your connection, but... I get an easy 500K/sec from NY (OOL) to LA (USC). Sometimes it hits 600K/s. Very pleased with the upload on Boost. Yeah, it is weird.. I mean, I can pull 15mbit from a distant server, but I can't upload at all? What the hell???? I always wondered why the upload is always less efficient than download, I know it isn't symetrical but that still doesn't explain why one has a greater proportion of usable bandwidth over a long distance.

| reply to ztmike Speed tests have been posted in the speed test forum. My computers do average on the speed tests anyway. From day one I've always been able to get better speeds from higher bandwidth sites than the speed test sites, especially Parsippany. -- Ken |

| reply to kdshapiro There's nothing else technical to add to this conversation. The reason why you cannot download over 100mbps has been posted several times. Pog even explained the most logical reason why your browser shows 13MB/sec. Yet you still think you're the chosen one who can download more than 3x faster than anybody else on the optimum network. Therefore the only thing left to do is make fun of you with asinine comments |

| reply to kdshapiro I'm hitting 32-32mbps/4mbps here in southern Bergen County on the Oakland system...
The most I got before on Boost was 23-24mbps down... My upload hasn't really changed..
I got a question for you guys. What is it that when testing to far away locations you can still pull 15mbps out of a 30mbps connection, but you may only get 1mbps upload out of 5? Is there a reason why the upload would drop even if 5mbps is such a slow rate?

| reply to kdshapiro said by kdshapiro :I actually don't care how it does it. Click file link, click save, file comes down very fast. If this is the way Vista works, more power to it. I'm not complaining. I'm not sitting around waiting for the file to download. LOL you would be a car salesman's wet dream. They could just change the numbers on the speedometer and tell you that the car can go 400mph. You would be in the auto forum the next day saying "but guys the speedometer on my honda said I was going 400mph so it must be true! |
