Re: [OOL] Boost Insane Speeds?

That's your download upload is still capped at 5000000

It's been reported for months, and my post showing the actual output of DOCSDIAG was simply to confirm:

for BOOST customers, the modem configuration download limit of 30000000 is removed. That's why I referred to the earlier poster who still shows the download value at 30000000. That geographic are has not been "upgraded" to the new modem configuation.

They have not and are not removing the configuration limit on the upload, which remains at 5000000, and I never suggested they were doing otherwise...

I'm sorry if I misunderstood but your post does say they're removing the upload configuration limit.

umm.. they have uncapped the modem. What rock are you living under?

Upload still has the normal cap, but that's supposed to be getting upgraded to 10Mbit (take that with a grain of salt though).

Download cap removed here too at 07014

I tested the speed. I am now getting at most 29.5 mbit. I tried diferrent download tests, including WinXP SP2, Usenetserver with 20 connections to diferrent servers, and combinations. Anyway it was done, either one down or combination of downloads my max was 29.5. So my modem is no longer capped but somewhere along the line in OOL's network, the cap does exist. Hopefully that will change soon too.

BTW, for the past year, I never got above 26mbit for a single moment. Now I get 29.x constantly.

Keep in mind that the advertised speed is still 30/5 for Boost.

The possible reason we are getting 30mbps, even a little higher, is because CV might have increased the max speed to 33 mbps or so to allow for the overhead of TCP.

FIOS users were quick to point out that they get the advertised speed unlike us OOLers who always got a few mbps less.

Perhaps CV removed the so called cap to be on an even keel with FIOS at least as far as Boost is concerned.

Just my 2 pesos.

In some areas they get advertised speeds but i bet almost half of the areas dont even get 20 to 25 mb like mine. Dont offer the speeds if you cant even give half of it.

I suppose all the problems that affect speed over cable still applies even with the cap removed.

For me I am lucky that I do get 30-32. Perhaps my nodes are not as saturated as yours.

I had a talk with a plant operations guy a few weeks back and he said they were going to change the number of households on the nodes in my neighborhood from 500 to 150.

I doubt that would ever happen here because every few blocks they would need a new node.

Re: [OOL] BOOST is double plus good! (In Orwellian Newspeak)

I had to raise the bar on my bandwidth graphs to 38mbps as I often hit ~35mbps now a days

If someone told me a few years ago we'd have uncapped kickass connections with nice upstream, from Cablevision, I would've questioned their sanity and knowledge of the market.

As long as our friends at CV do not oversell the product beyond it's ability to increase capacity to match, we'll all be very happy

No fanboy here by any means, but lately, CV is doing everything right.

Just to test it out a bit, I just now downloaded the Halo for Windows Trial from Microsoft - with similar results to StreetSpirit See Profile - and I never test as high as he does on the speed tests.

I think I'm beginning to understand the battered spouse syndrome now. No matter how badly they screw you, and how great they treat everyone else, you continue to send them money every month.

I take it back. I don't understand it at all. Makes no sense to my puny little brain. I'm sure there are justifications and explanations ad nauseum as to why a battered spouse won't leave, but I don't think I'll ever understand.

I said it plenty of times that i am going to get Fios when possible. One way or another i am stuck with the TV if i get rid of the internet now so i am still giving them money right. As soon as i can get Fios i will get a triple play with them and drop everything i have with OOL.

Yes, yes. Beat me every day, but I'm staying just another couple of days. I'm leaving soon - really. I just can't leave right now, I really need him (her).

Like I said, my puny little brain will never be able to understand the explanations and justifications.
