Re: [OOL] Boost Insane Speeds?

Before you start to call people trolls you should take a deep breath.

I frankly don't care whether or not you can believe it can happen and you can assign any reason to it. I obviously can't figure it out either. That you tell me it's impossible, is nonsense, it obviously isn't.

I probably know more than you, pal.

If you can really believe Vista can cache files before the first time they are downloaded, more power to you.

I'm reporting my results. Let's see you match these results.

Don't want to believe them fine, but have fun with your pokey speeds.

You ABSOLUTELY CANNOT download that fast using standard OOL Boost. It is pysically impossible to achieve that speed on a docsis 2.0 cable modem. So unless OOL is running some sort of fiber or docsis 3.0 service to your house, and your not telling us, you arent downloading files at 13MB a seconds, maybe mb but not MB. Why dont you take a speedtest and show us those results? also, what kind of modem do you have?

Please, somebody give me the file, I have a 14 mb standard OOL connection, with 1.8 mb upload. I really want to see how fast I can DL this, I refuse to believe that just because you have boost mean you DL the file faster.

I've had boost, but I had to get rid of it because the packet loss on the upload.

Download any file you want. Your not going to get the 11 MB a second hes claiming. Youll get around 4MB a second Max (30mbps+-). With non boost (the connection you have) youll get around 2MB a second max(15mbps+-)If you want to max out your connection and download as fast as possible then i suggest you get Download Accelerator Plus. It will saturate your connection with most servers. You will download files faster with boost, IF the server your getting it from supports speeds that high, or if you use DAP as i suggested.

Are you really that dense?

I'm not trying to be mean here, but come on.. Enough is enough. If you don't know enough about computers/networks to see that you cannot get 13MB/sec through a 43Mbps pipe, or even a 100Mbps pipe for that matter, then you're the one that should take a deep breath and step away. There's nothing to figure out really... Either you're doctoring the photos or Vista just sucks that much. Either way, you're not getting 13MB/sec download.

Listen, pal, there is no reason to start insulting.

Because you do not have the knowledge to provide an answer to what is happening, doesn't mean I'm "cheating".

Even if Vista is working behind the scenes to make this happen, I'll take it.

Frankly you can believe what you want, I don't need to convince you to enjoy the speeds and fast downloads I have.

Unfortunately this has dengenerated from my posting a screen shot into personal attacks. To bad.

There's no hope...

Enjoy your "speeds".

I guess ignorance is bliss .

Like I said, wasn't going for the personal attacks really.. Just trying to help.

For the love of god, CACHING means the file is already ON your computer, because you downloaded it already. 13MB sec is about the speed of your hard drive.
Geddit yet?

13MB/sec is very poor speed for a hard drive.

Anyway, caching is sort of the answer, in a way... in many browsers, when a file's dl link is clicked, 2 things happen at the same time:
1) a dialog opens, asking the user where to save the file
2) the browser starts the download

While the user is figuring out what to do, a significant portion of the file gets downloaded. The statistics, however, are calculated on a timer that starts when the user is done with the dialog.

IOW... depending on the browser/config, a 100MB file, with 20MB dl'd before the dialog closes and another 20MB dl'd 5 seconds after the dialog closes, would show (20+20)/5 = 8MB/s download speed at that moment.

Speed Test
Looks like the Raritan system in NJ has the new speeds. I've never pulled a speed test like this one.

Visit »www.matisse.net/bitcalc/

30 Mbps = 3.75 MBps

Mb = megabit
MB = megabyte

Do the math

Jeez - how many times do I have to explain. This is a new out of the box computer. I was downloading patches from the MS website. The file posted was the first time downloaded and it was not cached.

I actually don't care how it does it. Click file link, click save, file comes down very fast. If this is the way Vista works, more power to it. I'm not complaining. I'm not sitting around waiting for the file to download.

I think Pog got it My Firefox did that when i clicked a file and waited for a minute and then saved it. I used to make it say 140,000 KB/s and then it came down really fast.

It was cached.
Vista caches no matter what, something to do with Vista's autotuning or something like that.I have only read bits and pieces on it.

I cant believe this thread isnt locked yet for repetitive replies.
