This 16000 is the bandwidth allocated for the OV Svc, The OV svc and OOL have Separate Svc flows or Bandwidth allocated for each svc.

The Svc flows are there, so you should get decent speeds. 14-16mbps that's not the greatest. Figuring I was getting the full 15mbps on the basic tier. Even with your Linksys router you should be able to get boost speeds. I'd say fare would be mid 20's mbps. Looks like you have the uncapped Boost download (zeros) and 5000000 upload configuration. Not sure what the 16000 represents.

Have you tried hard rebooting your modem (unplug from the power source, wait a couple of minutes, then plug back in)?

If that doesn't work, call them, sometimes they have to kick start it.

13MB/sec is very poor speed for a hard drive.

Anyway, caching is sort of the answer, in a way... in many browsers, when a file's dl link is clicked, 2 things happen at the same time:
1) a dialog opens, asking the user where to save the file
2) the browser starts the download

While the user is figuring out what to do, a significant portion of the file gets downloaded. The statistics, however, are calculated on a timer that starts when the user is done with the dialog.

IOW... depending on the browser/config, a 100MB file, with 20MB dl'd before the dialog closes and another 20MB dl'd 5 seconds after the dialog closes, would show (20+20)/5 = 8MB/s download speed at that moment.

Perhaps MS is using some sort of "Compression" scheme that's also native to the Vista OS, and you are seeing the "Effective" D/L speed (vs. the ACTUAL "Bit-for-Bit" speed of the connection)...?

Can you achieve similar results when downloading a large file from a NON-MS Server, that has a BIG Bandwidth "Pipe"? (ex: a Linux ISO Distribution from »www.madtux.org )?

It would be an interesting experiment, none the less... ;)

You aren't.. I know as with all things, YMMV. It works out for me, and I'm happy. It may not work out for the next guy. I'm just pointing out that as far as here on the Island, it's very stable and consistent; please don't take offense at it as I'm not trying to one up anyone or show I'm better than anyone else.

I'm simply lucky to get nice speeds. As I can see from the forums, I'm really not the only one, but I don't doubt there are plenty of people who still suffer with sub-par speeds, yourself included.

I wish I could do something to help.. But unfortunately, that's not in my omnipotency contract ;)

Good luck, and I do hope you find a provider that works FOR YOU and makes you happy bro.. That's all that's important.

If someone told me a few years ago we'd have uncapped kickass connections with nice upstream, from Cablevision, I would've questioned their sanity and knowledge of the market.

As long as our friends at CV do not oversell the product beyond it's ability to increase capacity to match, we'll all be very happy ;)

No fanboy here by any means, but lately, CV is doing everything right. :)

The possible reason we are getting 30mbps, even a little higher, is because CV might have increased the max speed to 33 mbps or so to allow for the overhead of TCP.

FIOS users were quick to point out that they get the advertised speed unlike us OOLers who always got a few mbps less.

Perhaps CV removed the so called cap to be on an even keel with FIOS at least as far as Boost is concerned.

BTW, for the past year, I never got above 26mbit for a single moment. Now I get 29.x constantly.
