| Need Remote desktop from browser to Mac osx
I am looking for a remote desktop solution for my new Mac. I have Logmein installed on my pc and can access it from any browser with out installing software on the remote pc. Is there any software that I can install on my Mac do that I can remote into it from a browser? Free would be the best, but I am open to any solution.
Thanks |

| VNC client and server - there are several popular ones. Check versiontracker.com for them.
Never saw a browser-based solution - all Mac OS X machines come with a web server built-in, though, so you can access files that are in the Sites folder on your machine if Web Sharing is turned on.
For controlling the remote machine from the command line, of course, the underlying BSD layer has the usual assortment of ftp, secure copy, and ssh.
It depends on the need you have for seeing the remote machine's GUI. If what you need is grabbing files mostly, and sending files, the command line with ssh is fine. |

But I haven't used it. At least one of the VNC servers allows browser access (but it might be one of the Windows servers. I don't remember which it was).
VNC to a Mac with any sizable display even on a Gigabit LAN pretty much sucks. Vine server is better than the built-in VNC server but both are unbearable for anything other than desperate emergency use. -- We don't want your stinking corpus around here. |

| reply to evgray If you want to see what infinity looks like...install LogMeIn on the Mac, remote control a WinXP machine from the Mac, then remote control the Mac from the PC while remote controlling the PC from the Mac.... -- Honor the memory of the troops that served selflessly and without selfishness. | reply to evgray I'm using the OSX version of Logmein to connect to my Mac Mini (PowerPC) and it works just as well as the client I use on my Vista computers. It really requires like next to no configuration on the "server" side and no configuration on the client side (just a matter of going to the logmein.com web site). |
