SvS you are right, thank you, that worked. Symantec in their quest to make a more simple UI I suppose. |

And Interactive Mode does not work in the 2008 version even if it is selected. LiveUpdate in the 2008 products works the same way it did in previous versions, there is just one difference - when LiveUpdate is started from the NIS/NAV UI or the start menu shortcut found in the NIS/NAV program group a different executable is called which displays a new UI for LiveUpdate. To get the old behaviour back, create a shortcut to LUALL.EXE (found in the C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate folder, or where ever this may be installed on your system) and use this instead. Or just run luall via Windows' Run. -- Ant @ The Ant Farm: »antfarm.ma.cx ... Please do not IM/e-mail me for technical support. Use the forum (I check often)! LU 3.4 apparently takes care this for the 2008 product line but (as usual) there are issues with other Symantec products. The latest Ghost update (12.0 to 12.01), for example, will not install on Vista with UAC enabled unless LU is run with elevated rights. Makes me wonder if patches and LiveUpdates are really tested before they are dropped onto the user. |

I purchased NAV 2008 and downloaded the installer. Before I could uninstall NAV2007 or use the Norton removal tool, the installer started automatically. (Win XP PRO SP2 all updates.) I did turn off auto protect, however.
It took a few minutes, and rebooted.
Everything went well, after the reboot the installation finished and installed my key and also in my Norton account. Was not necessary to uninstall NAV 2007. I believe the installer does that before it installs the 2008 product.
Note: It also started the new subscription on the day my old one expired... a few days after the install: so I did not lose any time on the new account
BTW, I made a CD of the installer files and a text file that contains my product key. I also copied the installer files and the key text from the documents and settings file (all users Symantec temporary)to a utilities install folder for an additional backup. |

| reply to zteardrop My upgrade from NIS2007 to NIS2008 with remaining subscriptions on NIS2007, was very smooth and newer interface looks kinda cool. They have a different add-on pack for NIS2008 and its installation was pretty smooth too. But wait-a-minute, where is the ad-blocking option? Can't believe they removed it. This is a real bummer for me.
I am going to remove NIS2008 and get back to NIS2007, if there is no ad-block in it. |

| reply to SvS SvS,
One other thing that NIS 2008 breaks is Windows Live Messenger.
Once you install 2008 Live Messenger will not be able to log-in.
So you are force to remove NIS 2008 or use the WEB version of messenger. Yuk!
I honestly think this is a combination of bad programming from both sides M$ and Norton, but you have to wonder if they even test this stuff anymore. "The programmer said it was working so box it and ship it".
I just love Vista - "The Devil made me say it" honest. |
