I have sent the following message to your DSLReports account with my complete Cingular cell phone number, please do not reveal it or prank call me. I'm am normally awake somewhere between the hours of 9:00AM to 2:00AM Central Daylight Time, but it would probably be best to call between 10:30AM to 12:30AM CDT.

Also I just thought of something if you are not over the age of 18 please get your parents or legal guardians permission first.

I just wanted to point out the fact that I do not, nor have ever worked for AT&T Southeast/BellSouth.
------------------------------------------------------------
Hello lookxxx2003, my cellphone number is 1-270-776-XXXX, please do not reveal my cell phone number to any person or device or post it in any place public or private.

Thank You, Airwolf7
------------------------------------------------------------

I have helped many people over the phone fix their computers or set up their modems or routers.

I have helped many Servicemen and Servicewomen and their families set up their computers so that they can communicate with each other. One of them I had to help over the phone and with Remote Administration and Remote Assistance. I set up their modem and backed up their computer, formatted the hard drive and rebuilt the Operating System and software installation.

About two years ago I helped the owner of our local Chinese restaurant help his Chinese father in New York City install the Chinese version of Windows XP on his brand new DELL computer, his father only had a very basic command of the English language so his son had to translate my instructions to him over the phone until I could get the computer up enough to take over the computer with Remote Assistance and install all of the Chinese drivers and software, luckily for me the Chinese version of Windows XP has the same GUI as the English version and DELL's Chinese support website was about the same as the English one. With his other software I had to get the son to translate it for me as I was installing it.
I have known Jimmie (he is his father's number one son) for a long time, we gambled together a lot at the local pool hall and through idle chitchat he told me that he likes to draw things in AutoCAD, I told him that I was the head programmer at the local machine shop and I would be glad to show him a lot of little tricks and shortcuts that he might could use in AutoCAD. I brought him to the shop one day and showed him around, and he was really impressed with the 5-axis CNC and the Swiss-Turn lathe. He brought in some drawings one day and asked if I could make them for him, I said that I sure could but I had to clean up the drawings a bit so I could turn them into G&M code so the machine could understand them. They were some kind of ornamental decorations, we decided to make them out of brass and aluminium, and I cut them out on the waterjet and the wire EDM machine. He was really impressed because he had never seen a waterjet or wire EDM machine before, and he could not believe that a little stream of water could cut metal. He helped me deburr them and polish them, and then we assembled them and they were very pretty. I didn't charge him for cutting them out because he was always good the me and the owner of the machine shop, we would eat there a lot and when we would go in to eat he would always make us up something special that was not on the menu.
Later after I set up his father's computer he asked me if I could fix up another like I did earlier, so that some of his employees who could not read English very well could use it to talk to their family back home. I told him it would be no problem and to just call me when he was ready. It did not occur to me that he did not already have the computer, so he ordered a brand new DELL and ordered a new copy of Chinese Windows XP and called me up. I did not have the heart to tell him that he could have ordered it with Chinese Windows XP. I took the computer with me and fixed it all up with Chinese everything and I installed some software to help his employees learn to read, write, and speak English better. I took it back to him and set it up and showed him and his employees how to use it and showed them the software to help them learn English better, and I told him no charge and he was very grateful and he invited me to come to his house and eat a more traditional Chinese meal with his family and I accepted, it sure was some great food. While I was there I saw in a lighted glass case the ornaments that we had made almost ten years earlier, it sure did look like he was very proud of them. I told Jimmie that I could also install the software on his father's computer and maybe it could help him learn English better, Jimmie said OK and I did it for him. Later on Jimmie's father came down from New York City to check up on his number one son and make sure he was doing a good job running things. I happened to be eating there one day while his father was there and Jimmie introduced me to him, he told me that he was grateful for helping him out and that the software was really helping him and his employees to learn English better. He then told me and Jimmie that if I came in by myself or with my girl that there was no charge for as long as they have a restaurant and if I come to New York or any place else that they have a restaurant it would be the same there too.

I once helped a very nice black lady with BellSouth's Business Tech Support who helped me get one of my customer's straightened out, we were on the phone for awhile and she got all the right people working on it and she stayed with me until everyone had figured out the problem. She was having problems with her home computer and an IT guy at her work tried to help her but had no luck, so I gave her my contact info and told her to call me when she got off work, her kids had gotten the computer infested really bad, to the point that it was not worth trying to clean it so I helped her back it up and we rebuilt it from the ground up, it took about 7 hours. I also told her that the computer needed another 256MB stick of RAM. Later that week I got a nice package in the mail it had homemade chocolate chip cookies and a nice thank you letter in it. She must have used my contact info and ran it through the BellSouth database and got my address so she could ship me my cookies, and those were some real good cookies. I got to thinking that somewhere I had a busted down computer that was the same model as hers, I looked around and found it and I popped the cover off the case and the factory 256MB stick of RAM was still in it, so I popped it into a test board and ran memtest86+ on it overnight and it passed, so I put it in an anti-static bag and put that into a old Crucial Memory box and shipped it back to her with a note to call me when she got it. I got a call from her a few days later and I walked her through installing the RAM, then a couple of days later she called me back and said her computer has never ran so good and that the extra RAM really helped it out.

Just a couple of weeks ago I help my sister who lives a couple of hundred miles away from me upgrade her phone service and DSL service. I checked her modem statistics through Remote Administration on her modem and they were great so I recommended FastAccess DSL Xtreme 6.0. She gave me her account info so I went online and I upgraded her phone service and upgraded her DSL service to Xtreme 6.0 with home networking. I told her and her very smart lawyer husband that when the modem came in not to use the setup CD and to call me and I would set it up for them, but did they listen, no they did not and they proceeded to FUBAR not only their computer but also one of their children's computers too, at least they did not FUBAR all of the computers, then they decided to call me and I had to walk them through unFUBARing the computers. I walked them through the initial setup of the Westell 327W and got them to turn on Remote Administration and I proceeded to set the wireless encryption to WPA2 and enter a 63 character alpha-numeric code, I checked the other settings and adjusted the firewall, I then disabled Remote Administration. I then helped them setup the rest of the wired and wireless computers and through Remote Assistance tweaked the RWIN and MTU and fixed some other problems they were having.
------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know why I wrote all this stuff today. I guess it was because I decided to not do any work today so I could be around close and not be busy encase my mother needed me to come over for anything. I guess I just got bored.

I'm sorry if I wasted anyone's time.
------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: I added info at the top of my reply stating that I do not work for AT&T Southeast/BellSouth and not to call me if under the age of 18 without parent or legal guardians permission first.

If you don't have any luck with getting your Netopia set up I have IMed you my cell phone number.
If you want to call me you can or you can reply back to your post.

What model is your Netopia?
What model is your Linksys?
What version of DD-WRT are you running?

I have heard of the DD-WRT firmware for the Linksys, but I'm not familiar with it, if you will tell me what version you are running I will read up on it.

Yes, try plugging your Netopia back into your computer and use the pictures and the FAQs to set your Netopia to Bridged Ethernet mode and Always ON mode, then plug your Linksys back up and turn it on, and reboot your computer, and lets see what happens. I will IM you my cell phone number and you can call me any time you want. I am awake between 9:00AM-2:00AM most of the time.

Don't reset your Linksys yet. Chances are the Netopia just needs to be set to bridged mode in order for this to work.

lookxxx2003, Due to some confusion on my part I think I may have lead you from the correct path to setting up your Netopia modem and Linksys router and I'm sorry for that. I was going to reply back to your post again to help you and due to unforeseen circumstances I was not able to do that.

I have not been able to focus my mind very well today because my mother has been in bad health lately and was felling very poor today and I had to take her to the emergency room this evening and I just returned home at about 1:30AM.
------------------------------------------------------------
Here is what we need to do, we need to throw out everything that has been done so far and start from a clean sheet of paper.

To start off with we need to know exactly what hardware we are working with.
------------------------------------------------------------
Turn your Netopia modem upside down and look at the label.

What model Netopia modem do you have?

What firmware version is your Netopia modem running?

Is it a Netopia that was supplied by AT&T Southeast/BellSouth?
------------------------------------------------------------
Turn your Linksys wireless router over to the label side.

What model is your Linksys wireless router?

What version is your Linksys wireless router?

Is your Linksys wireless router running factory Linksys firmware?

If your Linksys wireless router is running factory Linksys firmware, what is it's firmware version?

Is your Linksys wireless router running aftermarket firmware?

If your Linksys wireless router is running aftermarket firmware, what type of aftermarket firmware is it running and what version is it?
------------------------------------------------------------

When you have provided me with accurate information about your hardware it will allow me to provide you with more accurate instructions about how to set it up.

This is basically what we are going to do, we are going to reset the Netopia and Linksys back to factory defaults, then we are going to update the firmware if not already at the current version, then we are going to reset the Netopia and the Linksys to factory defaults if we had to update the firmware, then we are going to set the Netopia to Bridge Ethernet mode, then we are going to set the Linksys to do the PPPoE authentication and all routing functions, then we are going to test and see that the gaming computer can properly access the Internet, then we are going to set the Linksys to forward the correct ports for your game to the IP address of your gaming computer, then we are going to set up your gaming computer for a static IP address or we are going to set the Linksys to always assign the same IP address to the MAC address of your gaming computer if your Linksys has that capability, then we are going to check to see if your gaming computer has a software firewall and make sure it is properly set up to allow your game to work, then we are going to tweak the gaming computer's Receive Window and Maximum Transmission Unit to match the level of FastAccess DSL that you have, then we are going to test the gaming computer and make sure your game works, then we are going to connect the rest of your computers and make sure that they can properly access the Internet, then we are going to tweak the Receive Window and Maximum Transmission Unit of the rest of your computers to match the level of FastAccess DSL that you have, then we are going to discuss wireless encryption options for your Linksys wireless router and your wireless computers and set them however you want them, then you are going to play Counter Strike and I'm going to eat a sandwich and take a nap.

I'm only willing to provide the above help over the phone, if you want to do that I can IM your DSLReports account with my personal AT&T/Cingular phone number, if you don't want me to have your phone number block your caller ID information before you call, if you are going to call me from a cell phone or a wireless home phone make sure the battery is fully charged before you call and make sure that you have good reception in the rooms that your modem, router, and computers are in before you call.
Be sure that you write down my telephone number before you call in case that we lose connection and you need to call back and your Internet access is in a state were you can not retrieve my telephone number from your DSLReports account. If you do not want to run up time on your cell phone or long distance on your home phone you can call me and I will call you back, I have over 5000 unused rollover minutes on my cell phone.

The reason why I'm only willing to provide the above level of help over the phone is because I believe it was due to my confusion that you were not able to fix your problem yesterday and also because I can think and talk much faster and better than I can think and type.

If you don't want to talk over the phone I will post you some screenshots that will help you set your modem to Bridge Ethernet mode and you can take it from there, if you need any additional help reply back to your post and I will help you.
------------------------------------------------------------
I was going to post this last night but I fell asleep in my chair before I had a chance and I see that FAQFixer has provided you with some help. If you need any additional help I will still help you over the phone or through this thread as described above.

Sorry for all of your trouble, Airwolf7

How about doing it the simplest, fastest, and most reliable way. Put your Netopia in bridged Ethernet mode and use the Linksys for PPPoE and LAN DHCP. Guaranteed to work. Use this FAQ and substitute the Westell steps and do it to the Netopia.

The double-NAT setup, while useful at times for some purposes, almost assuredly is going to be more trouble than it's worth for this poster.

Put the Netopia in bridge mode and let the router handle PPPoE and DHCP and be done with it.

Ok let me see if i can help. It looks like modem is pppoe and linksys is dhcp server. Dmz is disabled on linksys.
What about the Netopia DMZ? The Netopia is also a router; if you place a router behind the Netopia, it should be in the Netopia DMZ.

Could be so (for gaming). In my case, the SBC supplied SpeedStream 4100 is my first NAT device. PPPoE on the modem, DHCP scope is one IP address. DHCP server issues 192.168.1.64 to the WAN port of a Netgear FVS114. That IP address is DMZ, and can't be changed, or locked down. Wireless is not a part of the game.

I have never tried online gaming, myself, through this rig; but, it is common enough through the old SBC region, and doesn't seem to hinder the gamers.

if he wants to do cascaded nat ( not sure why you would do that unless you don't wireless clients accessing your lan)

then he has a lot more work ahead of him as he will have to open ports on each router.. unless he turns of dmz and leaves a default server ip setup to the 2nd nat device..

either way I think cascading on a "gaming" setup is not the way to go.
