| reply to lookxxx2003 Yes, try plugging your Netopia back into your computer and use the pictures and the FAQs to set your Netopia to Bridged Ethernet mode and Always ON mode, then plug your Linksys back up and turn it on, and reboot your computer, and lets see what happens. I will IM you my cell phone number and you can call me any time you want. I am awake between 9:00AM-2:00AM most of the time. |

| reply to lookxxx2003 If you don't have any luck with getting your Netopia set up I have IMed you my cell phone number. If you want to call me you can or you can reply back to your post.
What model is your Netopia? What model is your Linksys? What version of DD-WRT are you running?
I have heard of the DD-WRT firmware for the Linksys, but I'm not familiar with it, if you will tell me what version you are running I will read up on it. |

1 edit | reply to lookxxx2003 I have sent the following message to your DSLReports account with my complete Cingular cell phone number, please do not reveal it or prank call me. I'm am normally awake somewhere between the hours of 9:00AM to 2:00AM Central Daylight Time, but it would probably be best to call between 10:30AM to 12:30AM CDT.
Also I just thought of something if you are not over the age of 18 please get your parents or legal guardians permission first.
I just wanted to point out the fact that I do not, nor have ever worked for AT&T Southeast/BellSouth. ------------------------------------------------------------ Hello lookxxx2003, my cellphone number is 1-270-776-XXXX, please do not reveal my cell phone number to any person or device or post it in any place public or private.
Thank You, Airwolf7 ------------------------------------------------------------
I have helped many people over the phone fix their computers or set up their modems or routers.
I have helped many Servicemen and Servicewomen and their families set up their computers so that they can communicate with each other. One of them I had to help over the phone and with Remote Administration and Remote Assistance. I set up their modem and backed up their computer, formatted the hard drive and rebuilt the Operating System and software installation.
About two years ago I helped the owner of our local Chinese restaurant help his Chinese father in New York City install the Chinese version of Windows XP on his brand new DELL computer, his father only had a very basic command of the English language so his son had to translate my instructions to him over the phone until I could get the computer up enough to take over the computer with Remote Assistance and install all of the Chinese drivers and software, luckily for me the Chinese version of Windows XP has the same GUI as the English version and DELL's Chinese support website was about the same as the English one. With his other software I had to get the son to translate it for me as I was installing it. I have known Jimmie (he is his father's number one son) for a long time, we gambled together a lot at the local pool hall and through idle chitchat he told me that he likes to draw things in AutoCAD, I told him that I was the head programmer at the local machine shop and I would be glad to show him a lot of little tricks and shortcuts that he might could use in AutoCAD. I brought him to the shop one day and showed him around, and he was really impressed with the 5-axis CNC and the Swiss-Turn lathe. He brought in some drawings one day and asked if I could make them for him, I said that I sure could but I had to clean up the drawings a bit so I could turn them into G&M code so the machine could understand them. They were some kind of ornamental decorations, we decided to make them out of brass and aluminium, and I cut them out on the waterjet and the wire EDM machine. He was really impressed because he had never seen a waterjet or wire EDM machine before, and he could not believe that a little stream of water could cut metal. He helped me deburr them and polish them, and then we assembled them and they were very pretty. I didn't charge him for cutting them out because he was always good the me and the owner of the machine shop, we would eat there a lot and when we would go in to eat he would always make us up something special that was not on the menu. Later after I set up his father's computer he asked me if I could fix up another like I did earlier, so that some of his employees who could not read English very well could use it to talk to their family back home. I told him it would be no problem and to just call me when he was ready. It did not occur to me that he did not already have the computer, so he ordered a brand new DELL and ordered a new copy of Chinese Windows XP and called me up. I did not have the heart to tell him that he could have ordered it with Chinese Windows XP. I took the computer with me and fixed it all up with Chinese everything and I installed some software to help his employees learn to read, write, and speak English better. I took it back to him and set it up and showed him and his employees how to use it and showed them the software to help them learn English better, and I told him no charge and he was very grateful and he invited me to come to his house and eat a more traditional Chinese meal with his family and I accepted, it sure was some great food. While I was there I saw in a lighted glass case the ornaments that we had made almost ten years earlier, it sure did look like he was very proud of them. I told Jimmie that I could also install the software on his father's computer and maybe it could help him learn English better, Jimmie said OK and I did it for him. Later on Jimmie's father came down from New York City to check up on his number one son and make sure he was doing a good job running things. I happened to be eating there one day while his father was there and Jimmie introduced me to him, he told me that he was grateful for helping him out and that the software was really helping him and his employees to learn English better. He then told me and Jimmie that if I came in by myself or with my girl that there was no charge for as long as they have a restaurant and if I come to New York or any place else that they have a restaurant it would be the same there too.
I once helped a very nice black lady with BellSouth's Business Tech Support who helped me get one of my customer's straightened out, we were on the phone for awhile and she got all the right people working on it and she stayed with me until everyone had figured out the problem. She was having problems with her home computer and an IT guy at her work tried to help her but had no luck, so I gave her my contact info and told her to call me when she got off work, her kids had gotten the computer infested really bad, to the point that it was not worth trying to clean it so I helped her back it up and we rebuilt it from the ground up, it took about 7 hours. I also told her that the computer needed another 256MB stick of RAM. Later that week I got a nice package in the mail it had homemade chocolate chip cookies and a nice thank you letter in it. She must have used my contact info and ran it through the BellSouth database and got my address so she could ship me my cookies, and those were some real good cookies. I got to thinking that somewhere I had a busted down computer that was the same model as hers, I looked around and found it and I popped the cover off the case and the factory 256MB stick of RAM was still in it, so I popped it into a test board and ran memtest86+ on it overnight and it passed, so I put it in an anti-static bag and put that into a old Crucial Memory box and shipped it back to her with a note to call me when she got it. I got a call from her a few days later and I walked her through installing the RAM, then a couple of days later she called me back and said her computer has never ran so good and that the extra RAM really helped it out.
Just a couple of weeks ago I help my sister who lives a couple of hundred miles away from me upgrade her phone service and DSL service. I checked her modem statistics through Remote Administration on her modem and they were great so I recommended FastAccess DSL Xtreme 6.0. She gave me her account info so I went online and I upgraded her phone service and upgraded her DSL service to Xtreme 6.0 with home networking. I told her and her very smart lawyer husband that when the modem came in not to use the setup CD and to call me and I would set it up for them, but did they listen, no they did not and they proceeded to FUBAR not only their computer but also one of their children's computers too, at least they did not FUBAR all of the computers, then they decided to call me and I had to walk them through unFUBARing the computers. I walked them through the initial setup of the Westell 327W and got them to turn on Remote Administration and I proceeded to set the wireless encryption to WPA2 and enter a 63 character alpha-numeric code, I checked the other settings and adjusted the firewall, I then disabled Remote Administration. I then helped them setup the rest of the wired and wireless computers and through Remote Assistance tweaked the RWIN and MTU and fixed some other problems they were having. ------------------------------------------------------------ I don't know why I wrote all this stuff today. I guess it was because I decided to not do any work today so I could be around close and not be busy encase my mother needed me to come over for anything. I guess I just got bored.
I'm sorry if I wasted anyone's time. ------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: I added info at the top of my reply stating that I do not work for AT&T Southeast/BellSouth and not to call me if under the age of 18 without parent or legal guardians permission first. |
