What model Netopia do you have? I'm going to assume it's an AT&T Southeast/BellSouth model Netopia 2241N-006.
Do you have a router between you Netopia and your computer? I'm going to assume you do not.
Do you know that your Netopia modem is also a router? I'm going to assume not.
Do you know what TCP/UDP Ports need to be forwarded for your game to work? I'm going to assume not.
These are the TCP/UDP Router Ports that need to be Forwarded. I stole all the information between the dashes from some website.

If you use a router to connect to the internet then you will need to make sure that you have not restricted the ports that Steam needs in order for you to play.
The following ports should be opened for Steam to use:
UDP 1200 (used by the friends network)
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
TCP 27020 to 27039 inclusive
If you are running your own Dedicated Server or are operating a LAN center then you will need to open the following ports:
TCP 27040 and 27041
UDP 27015 and 27020
TCP 27015

Click on the link below to go to portforward.com, this webpage is for the Netopia 2241N-VGx, the Web GUI is a little different but it's close enough, follow the directions except for the part about logging into your Netopia's Web GUI at 192.168.1.1 that address is incorrect for a Netopia 2241N-006 it should be 192.168.1.254.
Make sure you follow the directions about setting your computer up for a static LAN IP address.
While you are in the Netopia's Web GUI set your connection type to be "always on", enter "expert mode", click "configure", click "connection", change connection type to "always on", click "save changes".

I was going to post step by step instructions with screenshots for the Netopia 2241N-006, but I could not find that modem, I checked my log book and I have loaned that modem out, sorry. |
