Lightyear

I am VERY satisfied with Lightyear. I was with Vonage since their inception about 4-5 years ago. Things worked well until recently, when I had a tremendous amount of problems (probably due to outsourcing and their ongoing legal problems with Verizon, their backbone). Their pings are all over the place.

I then switched to voip.com - WHAT A MISTAKE! I quit them after 2 months and am now with Lightyear and very satisfied.

Here is what I have learned about voip:

First, your isp download/upload speeds must be sufficient. Second, and more important, is that your ping times must be under 80ms. You can run a tracert from your dos command to get your ping times. Third, the only company that I would now deal with is someone who is on the Level 3 network. It is, in the opinion of my isp (and now me) the only reliable nationwide voip network. You will be hard-pressed to find a residential Level 3 distributor - most Level 3 partners are only providing business voip (pbx's, etc.). Lightyear was the only reliable company I could find. I became their customer and I also signed up as an agent because I was so impressed with their service. You can contact me if you wish to sign up on Lightyear.
