[X] Like New Setup Assistant?

I know this has been covered before, but searching finds zilch.

My question is this. I'm selling an iBook G4 and want the buyer to receive the machine in a "fresh" state. IE:I don't want to reinstall, I just want to delete my account and have the Setup Assistant run when the buyer powers the machine on.

Is this possible, or did I dream the whole thing up?

Thanks in advance

Regards,
Mike

Yes. It's possible. Just pop the OS X DVD in and restart and it will give you the option of formatting. Format the drive and then when it gets to the point where you have to Setup, turn off the computer. The next time its started up it will behave exactly as if it was a brand new Mac.

No, I want to know if it's possible to do without reformatting.

Mike

Sorry. Didn't fully read your post. As far as I know, you can't just delete your account. Maybe someone else can chime in.

You can't delete the last remaining account. There wouldn't be any account to log off from.

I found a link. Using Single User Mode you can delete the admin acct and the file that tell OS X that Setup Assistant has run.

I'll try it and report back.

This is a bad idea in so many ways....data recovery can and should be considered. ALWAYS...reformat drives using at LEAST the 8 pass security wipe.
If you want the machine to go in a like new way, do exactly as suggested. When it boot, the Setup Assistant will run as will the Migration Assistant.

You're right. It's totally insecure. However, I know that I have no sensitive data on the machine.

Your warning is well taken, though.

Mike
