JetBroadband Traffic Caps

I live in the Radford area and besides being totally pissed about these new traffic caps of a puny 20GB, I'm confused about when these new caps will actually come into effect. I did the math and 20GB a month comes out to about 680MB a day. Anything over 20GB a month and you'll be paying 5 bucks a GB.

Anybody know when we should start rationing our downloads? I hope this company crumbles quickly and we get a real provider like Cox who has 12Mb service in Roanoke.

Another thing that I find strange is that their site says that the top speeds in this area will actually be DOWNGRADED from 3Mb to 2Mb. 60 bucks for 2Mb AND a traffic cap??? This is INSANE people. However, right now I'm usually getting around 5Mb speeds and a CRAZY upload of 1Mb to 2Mb. Regardless, who needs all this bandwidth if they're telling you how much you can use it?

Thank God I have Dish Network for TV, because I wouldn't be suprised if they start telling people how much TV they can watch...

They (and other ISP's) say that traffic caps are in place to deter P2P users. I say that's a load of crap. If they want to deter P2P users, then start rationing UPLOAD traffic and not download traffic.

Anyway, if anyone knows when we should start watching out downloads then let me know. I got an email the other day which is how I learned of this new takeover, and the email said that the takeover would be "complete" August 22nd. It also said that there would be a future email about how to change your email address from suddenlink to jet. I ASSUME that since I haven't gotten any other emails about changing my email which means I can't log into the jetbroadband site to check my traffic tally that as of now the cap isn't in effect.

I called the other day after I got this email and some clueless "tech" on the line said they "have no plans to change anything" but the jetbroadband site clearly shows a traffic cap of 20GB for radford.

Any info and your opinions is appreciated.

For those of you that might not be familiar, I meant Radford Virginia.

The FAQ for your area (and mine) states that there are no initial plans to downgrade your previous plan or raise the price. There is no mention of the bandwidth caps. The customer service rep you spoke to probably has the same talking points.

"Will my prices increase once I transition
to JetBroadband?

At this time we have no plans to increase rates but any price adjustments would be planned and communicated to you in advance through bill inserts and messages. Any adjustment in prices will be performed to reflect the value of JetBroadband services, investment in new products, and enhancements to JetBroadband’s customer service.

Will there be any changes to my High Speed
Internet services with JetBroadband?

JetBroadband will be working immediately to improve high-speed internet reliability and to increase speeds.

Will the speed I get with JetBroadband High
Speed Internet differ from the speed I have
now?

Initially, the speed that you will receive with JetBroadband will be the same download/upload speeds you have with your current provider. However, JetBroadband will be working immediately to improve high-speed internet reliability and to increase speeds."

I want to give them the benefit of the doubt on this issue. My guess is that the webmaster copied the Internet packages listed from another market without verifying the actual packages available.

You may be right about that, perlkid. It could also be that any pre-transition package with Suddenlink is considered a grandfathered plan (at least that's the term for it at Cingular, now the new At&T.)

New customers (not former Suddenlink subscribers) would not be eligible for the grandfathered plans (which formerly Suddenlink customers would probably not be forced to move from unless you requested the plan change.) New customers would have to pick from the plans shown in the screenshot.

I have been asking the same question and have not heard a straight answer. . . . If there is a 20gb cap with 5 bucks per gb I am going to get charged through the nose.

I have yet to hit 3mb on any test. 2400 kbps is the best where I was getting 4300 kbps with suddenlink.

We need fios.

FYI traffic caps WILL be in effect for EVERYONE serviced by JetBroadband whether you're a former Suddenlink customer or not. FUCK THESE PEOPLE.

Traffic caps only, or are they planning to decrease our speed by 1/3 and charge us 50% more?

I never thought I'd say this, but I'd kill for Comcast to buy up this area. They have the other side of Christiansburg, but not over here, and Verizon's service here at the house only hits 768 down reliably. Something's gotta give. Connection's not staying up and these caps of which you speak makes me afraid to do anything. The trial of Office 2007 we downloaded was 1 GB in itself.

They can go to hell with their traffic caps. We are a paying 30-50 dollars of our money for a month for service and they are going to tell us how much we can download or upload on the net or charge us more, for something that our tax money built anyway, they should be paying us. Might as well not be playing any types of games online, download movies or anything. I didn't know we lived in a communist country. Fuck them and the horse they rode in on!!

One more thing... I know that those are just stock photos on their website (see the screenshot I posted above), and those people don't have anything to do with JetBroadband, but I'd like to strangle that *** on the top with her headset cord and take that CRT monitor in front of that other *** at the bottom and turn it into a nice hat for her. It's like their both saying "Welcome to JetBroadband!! We've come to destroy your consistent speeds and ration your bandwidth!!! Have a nice day **** !!!!!!!"

In case you can't tell I'm pissed.

The other day after my speed was worse than dial-up I broke down and called these #####. The wormy little #### on the phone said that "traffic caps are becoming quite common". I told him bull####. He says "there are traffic caps in place all over Canada". I replied by saying "yeah #### that's Canada where the IT infrastructure sucks. You people just want to generate money by selling more bandwidth than you can provide." By this point I was about to blow a gasket and just hung up on him. During the course of the call I learned that although they won't be downgrading anyones speed that there WILL be traffic caps for all customers. He says he's unsure whether they're enforcing them as of yet but if they aren't already in place that they will be shortly. IMO, there should be laws in place that say an ISP can't sell service that they can't provide.

I did over 40GB of downloading last week which is unusual, but not unheard of for me. If they try to charge me for it I'm gonna tell 'em to kiss my ### because: 1 - I've never even recieved a JetBroadband bill yet which means I can't set up my email account which means that I can't log into my personal page on their site to even check my traffic usage.

Until these #### came along my speeds (with the exception of one time about 2 years ago), have ALWAYS been 90 to 100 perecent of what I pay for. I've been a Charter/Suddenlink customer for almost 5 years now and have always been completely satisifed with my service until now. But hey, as long as my speeds stay at 56K then I'll never have to worry about going over their #### limit!!! I can't get DSL where I live but I told the prick on the phone that if I could I'd pack up and move right now today just to get away from JetBroadband.

The only complaints I've had about Charter and Suddenlink was that the speeds haven't increased from 3Mb in about 3 years now. When I moved to Christiansburg Charter only offered 768Kb compared to the 1.5Mb that Adelphia had in Blacksburg at the time which is where I moved from. But in Blacksburg, even though I paid for a 1.5Mb line I was lucky to ever see even a third of that when the students were in town. After about 6 months the speeds increased to 1.5Mb in Christiansburg and then about a year or more later it went to 3Mb which is where it's been ever since.

My mom lives in Roanoke and has Cox. She has 12Mb service and gets every bit of it all the time.

Maybe we could get some sort of petition going. I'd do what I can to help if there's more people interested.

I spoke with someone the other day. She told me that the traffic caps will be put in place soon. She also said I shouldn't have a problem going over the 20Gig/month limit. I explained that there shouldn't BE a limit. She couldn't answer me. This is all bullshit. I can go with Embarq, but I'd rather not.

Man this sucks.

I was only with Suddenlink for a month and the service had no problems what so ever. Now with Jetbroadband all I have is speeds that are close to dial-up. I recommend everyone to call everyday for every little problem you have and demand a credit on your account for the problem. I've gotten a free month of internet as well as $5.00 off my account because of an audio outage on Comedy Central.

Radford residents - let this company know that they are not welcome here.

Well im having some problems with my speeds also.During the am hours i get around 3000 download and 900 upload but after 12pm it SUCKS..Ping times go from 50s to 70s to 200s to 800!!!and download speed goes below 1000 and uploads anywhere from 500, to 100s.Is it because more people are getting online at those hours? If so why dont the just add some more servers or something.Any imput?I cant play xbox live in the evening hours because of the lag.No splitters just strait calble. The checked lines already and all is fine.I gues we need to keep bugging them so they will upgrade there end.

Mike,
I went with embarq several months ago when suddenlink wouldn"t help me with my router. I have been very pleased with them They are hardly ever down and you get the speed you pay for most of the time

This company is AWFUL. I've had outages EVERY SINGLE day from 6pm - 1am for 2 MONTHS. They are basically stealing from people. I pay for 1.5 mbps and get about 300kbps. That's slower than the lower grade of service. Streaming video or internet gaming is completely out of the question. I've called support half a dozen times and they never know what the problem is or when it will be fixed. They do know there is a problem, but they don't know what it is. 2 MONTHS. Tragedy that they are the only company in my area. Friggin crooks.

So, my jetbroadband goes out on wednesday. I call them, they say, leave your router unplugged for 48 hours and call us after that to see if it was the router instead of your modem. So the NEXT day, i call them to tell them its still broken, they say, We told you to leave it off for two days. I tell them I dont have that kind of time and that I know i have a problem that needs dispatching to fix. So they tell me a guy will be here in 2 days. No guy after two days(Friday and Monday). Call on the third day to try to figure out why. The woman starts asking me diagnostic questions...Have you tried unplugging your modem, do you have a splitter, etc. I tell her Ive already answered all those questions 5 other times and Im not answering them anymore, that she can look at my file. She says something smart, I tell her to lose her attitude. She replies, "No, you lose your attitude, SON." I talk to a manager who ensures that my ticket has been marked urgent and they will be here that day to fix it. They never showed. So now I'm out of internet for over a week, 10 bucks down the drain. I think I'll call tomorrow and mention the BBB, that seems to help sometimes. And more on point, if im ever charged for exceeding bandwidth, that is a bill ill never pay.
