Ah, Thanks for the heads up on tmobil. It is an very interesting concept though »T-Mobile UMA does VoIP + I have the same issue with the joi adapter yes, not sticking to same dhcp assigned IP.It tends to change every time I reboot the Router which has had to be done twice in a month +. I am not to excited about my new WRT54G. I need to call them to have a static assigned there. | | jarschmi

Thanks for your input. I agree that JP's billing queries are fairly non-user-friendly, along with their web interface. However, like you said, the billing is fair, the price is outstanding and the service is pretty decent.
I didn't know that T-Mobile was coming out with VOIP service. However, I can tell you that my dad's cell service with T-Mobile was an utter disaster. He had service with them in WI for a couple of years, and they overcharged him about $300 over that time period. We had to get the state attorney general's office to step in to assist clearing his credit file and getting him a refund. Their customer service is completely incompetent, even at the "supervisor" levels...you might want to look into how many complaints they've had with the BBB or FTC.
Anyways, 27M down and 1.5M up? Yeah, the adapter can't even come close to handling that. I think that the individual home wiring schematic makes things different for the POTS integration with some users and not others. Do you have the JP adapter assigned a static IP behind the router? I couldn't get that setting to "stick" either, otherwise, I'd also put my adapter behind my USR router...otherwise it happens to come into and leave the DMZ I assign to it every couple of days...really annoying, but not disastrous. | | Voiponoid

| reply to jarschmi I signed up wiht JOiPhone and started my porting from SR July 17 or so. Porting was done August 8th. I used to have D-link Router, but that wouldn't go with JP so I bought Linksys WRT54G I connect Cable modem-Router and have the Phone behind the router. I tried it in front of the router, but there it chopped up 70% of my otherwise excellent bandwidth ( 27M up and 1.5M down). This works very well. I do have the phone line on my regular pots.-On incoming calls, all phones ring. Shouldn't they?? I believe it did the same when I had the pots before SR. That at least doesn't bother me, but I am also having issues adjusting QOS. I download a lot and that is a problem, I cannot get QOS to work.On the other hand, it is now month of JoiPhone and quality of calls incoming and outbound seem to be OK or good.My first phone bill was a little confusing the way that I received email stating my account had been charged and two days later I received Email stating I had to pay my bill. I then went to their website which to me is the worst thing of the whole deal, payed my bill whopping $ 1.92. Had to leave 5 bucks there and credit rolled over to next bill.- All in all, this is really good alternative to SR. I will now wait a few months until my ( and family) Cell Sprint account expires, then I will have the whole family over to T-mobil Voip and stop using regular voip phone all together.-Hope this helps a little. there isn't much about Joiphone here, perhaps because it works ok. | |
