Wireless Problems After Window's Update

Recently, I done a regular windows update like I always do, I got all the necessary updates which was an update for windows xp and security updates for Internet Explorer. I restarted, now before....my wireless was working fine. I restarted as it required it.

I boot up and try to access the net, I'm using a Linksys WUSB54GS v.2 network adapter. I open internet explorer and Firefox - CANNOT FIND SERVER/PROBLEM LOADING THE PAGE.

Then 10 seconds later it will receive a connection and work slowly. Then sometime later maybe 45 seconds..it'll show cannot find server. It does this repeatedly..

I'd really appreciate any help I can get!

You need to run the setup CD for your Linksys USB again. I assume you are using an encrypted network. I hope you are. If so, you have a password entered (WPA) or a hex string (WEP). Often, there is a setting for "open key" or "shared key" or something to that effect. It refers to your password. If the "open key" setting is on, your USB device will search around and connect to any network whether the passwords match or not. Then, when you try to do something, the network you're connected to refuses you for having the wrong password and you get the "cannot find server" message. Changing the setting to "shared key" means your USB device will only connect to a network with a password that matches yours. Poke around in your USB settings and see if you see something like "open key". If you do, change it to "shared key" and save.

If you are not using a WEP or WPA encrypion, you'll have the same problem of your USB device connecting to other networks incorrectly.

If you know nothing about encryption, find a friend who does or some school kid with a laptop might use your wireless connection to do something naughty and you'll find the police or the secret service at your door wanting answers.

Hope this helps. If not, post more info about how your wireless network is setup (name, channel, encryption type).
